Horned Frogs collect 6-1 victory for 15th win of the year
FORT WORTH – No. 2 TCU men's tennis (15-2) flexed its muscles on Saturday afternoon, taking down No. 65 USF, 6-1, at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. TCU won a hard-fought doubles point before winning four straight set matches and one of two 10-point super sets for the first outdoor win of the season on the purple courts.
TCU is now 2-1 outdoors this season with the previous victory coming at No. 25 UCLA last weekend, the program's first win at UCLA.
"I felt the team played well to win matches, especially Pedro [Vives], Charlie [Aguilar], Tomas [Jirousek] and Sander [Jong]," head coach David Roditi said. "I felt the doubles was a big point for us to get. USF is very well coached by Horned Frog Alumnus Ashley Fisher, who was a world class doubles player himself. I was very proud of the way Fomba fought back to win his match. Now we get to play at SMU Monday night. That's always a tough match due to metroplex rivalry and they have won a lot of matches this year. It will be a battle and we hope to get some Horned Frog support there on Monday."
TCU was pushed in doubles play, with breaks proving hard to come by on all three courts. The Frogs had to show patience and perseverance before Juan Carlos Aguilar and Pedro Vives managed to secure a break to go in front, 4-3. They would go on to win their match at No. 2 doubles as both remaining courts were deadlocked, 5-5. But the No. 1 pair, Luc Fomba and Jake Fearnley, came through, breaking their opponents to go in front, 6-5, before Fearnley held serve for a 7-5 victory.
