Horned Frogs Defeat No. 8 Cal Poly and Southern Miss to close out opening weekend 4-0

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- No. 4 TCU beach volleyball finished the first weekend of play with a perfect 4-0 record, at the Seminole Beach Bash in Tallahassee, Fla. The Horned Frogs defeated No. 8 Cal Poly, 3-2 and Southern Miss, 5-0 for the first perfect season opening weekend in the program's eight-year history.

Three Frogs won all four of their matches this weekend, Daniela Alvarez, Tania Moreno and Megan Muret. Alvarez and Moreno posted the 4-0 record together as the No. 1 pairing, while Muret earned wins at No. 4 and No. 5 today to complete her perfect weekend.

QUICK HITS AGAINST No. 8 Cal Poly:

Megan Muret and Rochelle Scott scored the first point for the Horned Frogs, winning in two sets at the No. 5 position: 21-12, 21-11.
This is the duo's third win together as a pair.
The pairing is now 2-0 against ranked opponents.
Both improve to 3-0 on the season.
Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno won in two sets at No. 1: 21-17, 21-17.
The Spanish Phenoms claim their 29^th victory and 13^th ranked win as a pair.
The pairing is now 3-0 on the season.
Ana Vergara and Maria Gonzalez secured the match for TCU by winning in two sets at the No. 4 position, 25-23, 21-16.
The duo improves to 2-0 as a pair and in ranked wins.
Gonzalez achieves her 12th ranked win as a Frog.
This is the first meetup between the Horned Frogs and the Mustangs since 2019. TCU leads the series are 3-1.

QUICK HITS AGAINST Southern Miss:

Alvarez and Moreno finished off a perfect weekend at the No. 1 position in a two-set victory: 21-16, 21-11.
This is the duo's 30th career win as a pair, they improve to 4-0 on the season.
Sutton MacTavish and Hailey Hamlett scored the second point for the Horned Frogs winning in two sets at the No. 3 position: 21-10, 21-13.
The duo advances to 3-1 as a pairing.
Alexis Filippone and Hailey Brockett secured the match victory for TCU, winning in two sets at No. 2: 21-16, 21-16.
The duo improves to 2-2 as a pairing.
Brockett achieves 58 career wins, the third most in program history.
Megan Muret and Tara Patton score the fourth point for the Frogs in a two-set victory at the No. 4 position: 21-16, 22-20.
This is the duo's first win together.
Muret improves to 4-0 on the season, Patton grabs her first win of the 2022 season.
Peyton Yamagata and Hayley Boll took the fifth point for TCU in a three-set victory at the No. 5 position: 18-21, 21-18, 15-11.
This is the duo's first appearance and win together as a pair.
Hayley Boll claims her first win of the season, Yamagata her second.
This is the first time in program history that the Frogs have started a season 4-0.
TCU achieves its second 5-0 victory of the season.
The team improves to 3-2 in three-set matches.

UP NEXT
The Horned Frogs return to Fort Worth for the first home tournament of the new season on March 4^th and 5^th. TCU will host five teams: No. 18 South Carolina, No. 19, Stetson, No. 17 Georgia State, No. 3 Florida State and Central Arkansas. The Frogs play their first match at 11:30 a.m. against the Gamecocks on the TCU beach volleyball courts, Friday.
