
Rifle Opens Home Slate With Solid Performance

TCU fires third highest score of the season
FORT WORTH – The No. 2-ranked TCU women's rifle team opened its home schedule with a solid performance against UTEP on Saturday. The Horned Frogs fired a team score of 4,741, the third highest mark of the season. TCU produced nine of the top individual marks in the match.
As a squad, the Horned Frogs fired a 2,363 in smallbore, a mark that ranks third in program history. Additionally, they turned in a 2,378 in air rifle. The top 10 smallbore marks all came from Horned Frogs, while nine of the top 10 air rifle marks were fired by TCU.
TCU turned in a tremendous performance in smallbore. Abigail Gordon fired a match-best 593 in the discipline. Julie Johannessen and Stephanie Grundsoee each shot a 592. Kristen Hemphill contributed a 586. Also serving as a counter was Nina Schuett, who shot a 584.
Not factoring in the team score were Mikole Hogan (581), Anne White (579), Grace Taschuk (578) and Annie Downum (576).
In air rifle, the Frogs fired nine scores of 590 or better. Grundsoee led all shooters with a 598. Gordon and Hemphill fired scores of 594 while Johannessen and White each shot a 592.
Hogan posted a career-high 595 in the discipline to sit third. Schuett finished second in air rifle with a 595. Allan's 593 was seventh-best, while Taschuk rounded out the top 9 with a 590. Downum fired a 573 while Gianna Yokoe shot a 572.
For the match, Grundsoee finished atop the leaderboard with an aggregate of 1,190. Gordon finished second with an 1,187. Johannessen (1,184), Hemphill (1,180) and Schuett (1,179) rounded out the top five.
UTEP fired a team score of 4,582 (2,261 smallbore; 2,321 air rifle). The Miners were led by Jonna Warnken who finished 10th with an aggregate of 1,159 (574 smallbore; 585 air rifle).
TCU will wrap up the fall season Sunday against UTEP. Match time is set for 9 a.m. (CT) at the TCU Rifle Range.
