
Rifle Closes Fall Season On High Note

Horned Frogs fire a 4,723 in final match of the fall
FORT WORTH – No. 2 TCU wrapped up a two match set against UTEP with another solid performance on the range Sunday. TCU fired a team score of 4,723 to wrap up its fall season of competition. The Horned Frogs produced nine of the top 10 aggregate scores in the match.
 
As a squad, TCU continued its strong showing in smallbore. The Horned Frogs fired a 2,346 in the discipline and followed up with a 2,377 in air rifle.
 
Stephanie Grundsoee paced all shooters with the top mark in both smallbore and air rifle. She fired a 591 in smallbore to start the day and finished with a 596 in air rifle.
 
Kristen Hemphill, Abigail Gordon and Julie Johannessen shot identical 585 marks in smallbore to aid the Horned Frogs' cause. Also serving as a counter was Nina Schuett, who fired a 584 to finish seventh in the discipline. While not serving as a counter, Mikole Hogan set a career-high with a 587 in smallbore for the second-best score in the match.
 
Shooting in relay two, Anne White fired a 585 to lead the group of four. Grace Taschuk followed with a 579 followed by Stephanie Allan with a 573 and Annie Downum with a 562.
 
In air rifle, the Frogs posted the top nine marks in the match. Nine of the 11 shooters eclipsed the 590 mark. Serving as counters, Hemphill and Johannessen fired a 594 followed by Hogan and Gordon's 593.
 
Taschuck continued her solid day on the range with a career-high 596 in air rifle, a mark that was tied for tops in the match. White turned in a 592 and Schuett a 591. Downum fired a 577 followed by Gianna Yokoe's 574.
 
UTEP finished with team score of 4,604 (2,280 smallbore; 2,324 air rifle). Morgahn Warner was the Miners' top shooter with a 1,168 (580 smallbore; 588 air rifle) to finish ninth overall.
 
TCU will take a break from collegiate action and will return to competition Jan. 15 for a home match against Ohio State.
