FROG FOCUS
TCU will be playing its second doubleheader of the new season after the Horned Frogs took down Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian last Saturday, both in the form of 4-0 sweeps.
The Horned Frogs went 10-1 in all matches last week, winning all six singles matches and winning four out of five doubles sets. Senior Aleksa Cveticanin looked to be in strong form in her return to the dual courts, winning all three of her matches, including a pair of 6-1 doubles wins on the No. 1 pairing, with Stevie Kennedy, on her way to being named student athlete of the week from TCU.
Cveticanin was one of two Horned Frogs to post a 3-0 mark last weekend, freshman Helena Narmont had a stunning debut in her first collegiate duals, winning a pair of singles matches in straight sets, along with a 6-1 doubles win at No. 3 with her partner, Alisa Soloveva. Narmont achieved both of her singles wins in the top of the lineup (No. 2 and No. 3).
Mercedes Aristegui played No. 1 singles for TCU last weekend, winning both of her matches by a combined score of 24-6. She did not surrender more than two games in any of her four singles sets.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Northwestern State opens its 2022 season today against UT-Tyler. The Lady Demons are coming off of a 7-9 season last year in which they did not play a school from a Power 5 conference. NSU went 2-4 out of conference last season, with both victories coming over LSU-Alexandria. This will be the second all-time meeting between the two schools. TCU defeated NSU, 9-0, back in 1987.
Arkansas State is also beginning its dual season today, against North Texas. A-State finished last season with a 4-9 record, ending the year on a five dual losing streak. This will be the fourth meeting between TCU and Arkansas State. TCU leads the series, 3-0, with the latest win coming in 2018 (4-0).
