TCU defeats Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian, 4-0.
FORT WORTH -- TCU women's tennis (2-0) got its 2022 spring dual season started off right with a pair of 4-0 victories over Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian on Saturday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Senior Aleksa Cveticanin and freshman Helena Narmont led the Horned Frogs with three wins each across both matches.
"Great job by the ladies today," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "It's awesome to get the season started with nine healthy players on the roster, which is unfortunately something we haven't had the last couple of years. Addy played her first singles match in nine months and battled really well. Aleksa has been out for over two years. A large majority of people would have stopped playing given her situation. It's hard to not just smile when watching her play. I'm so happy for her to get her season started well for her and for the team. We have a lot of new faces on the courts this year and I think our schedule really plays into that well. The matches are only going to get more intense from here but this group is going to be ready. We're ready to have a great season."
The top of the singles lineup flexed its muscles in both matches as TCU earned five of its six victories from the top three singles spots. Mercedes Aristegui earned a pair of straight set victories at No. 1 while Narmont delivered victories at No. 2 (vs. UIW) and No. 3 (vs. ACU).
Cveticanin won her singles match vs. ACU at No. 2 (6-3, 6-2) along with a pair of 6-1 doubles wins, playing No. 1 with Stevie Kennedy. These were Cveticanin's first dual matches since 2018 after missing the last two seasons with injuries.
