
Rifle Opens Spring with a Win

Team fired the program’s second-best air rifle score
FORT WORTH – The TCU women's rifle team fired an aggregate score of 4,724 to defeat Ohio State in the opening match of the spring season. The Horned Frogs fired a smallbore score of 2,338 and the program's second-best air rifle score of 2,386. Ohio State finished with a 2,329 in smallbore and 2,364 in air rifle.
TCU fired six of the top 10 scores in smallbore. Abigail Gordon led the team with a 586, matching her career high and placing her second in the discipline. Right behind her was Kristen Hemphill who fired a 585 to finish fourth. Also contributing to the team's score was Stephanie Allan with a 584, placing her fifth, and Stephanie Grundsoee with a 583, placing her sixth. Anne White also served a counter in the match, shooting a 580 to finish ninth.
While not contributing to the team score, Nina Schuett shot a 581 to place eighth in the discipline. Grace Taschuk and Noelle Christensen fired a 577 and 575, respectively.
The Frogs produced six of the top 10 shooters in air rifle. Hemphill led the team and the standings with her 598, one point shy of her career high. Stephanie Allan shot a career high of 597 to place second overall. White fired a 596 to place fifth in the discipline. Grundsoee fired a 595 to finish sixth. Gordon also served as a counter in air rifle where she fired a 587 to round out the TCU shooters.
Schuett, who did not serve as a counter, fired a personal best 596 (47x) in air rifle and placed fourth overall in the discipline. Also shooting were Taschuk (588) and Christensen (579). Gianna Yokoe built off her momentum from the first home match, firing a career-high 566. Taylor Haffner also shot in the first home match of 2022, firing a 576.
Overall, the team had five of the top 10 individual shooters. Hemphill finished first overall in the match with her aggregate of 1,183. Along with her record-breaking air rifle score, Allan also set a new aggregate score of 1,181, which placed her fourth overall. Grundsoee placed fifth (1,178) and Schuett placed seventh (1,177). White and Gordon placed eighth and ninth, respectively.
The Frogs will be back Sunday, Jan. 16 to once again take on Ohio State at the TCU Rifle Range. The contest is set to begin at 8 a.m.
