TCU sits sixth nationally after fall schedule
FORT WORTH – The No. 6 TCU women's rifle team will host Ohio State Saturday and Sunday to kick off their spring schedule. This weekend's contests are two of three matches against Ohio State this season.
As a team, the Frogs are ranked third nationally in air rifle (2,377.2) and in smallbore (2,340.2).
Denmark native Stephanie Grundsoee leads the team with her aggregate average of 1,185, which puts her fourth nationally. Senior Kristen Hemphill sits 13th nationally in the smallbore discipline and 15th in aggregate. Junior Stephanie Allan continues to have a record-breaking season, finishing the fall season 15th nationally in air rifle.
"I am also proud of what Stephanie Allan has accomplished! Her breakthrough performance has been in the air rifle matches and we have relied on her throughout the fall as a counter for both the smallbore and air teams," Monez said.
TCU ended the fall schedule on a high note, defeating UTEP and Nebraska. In the match, the team produced six of the top 10 shooters in smallbore and five of the top 10 in air rifle.
"Kristen Hemphill and Stephanie Grundsoee continue to lead the team. Both have kept their performance on track and consistently are at the top of the leaderboard," head coach Karen Monez said. "Freshman Anne White has had an impressive start with the scores and success she had in the air rifle event and I look for her to build on the solid air rifle average she finished the fall with. She is off to a great start in '22, winning the Texas State Junior Championship last weekend with a 585 smallbore and 595 air."
Six members of the team traveled to Anniston, Ala. to compete in the Winter Airgun Championships over the break. The Frogs produced three of the eight finalists on the weekend. Hemphill placed fourth with her score of 207.7. Abigail Gordon (165.3) and Grundsoee (165.3) placed seventh and eighth, respectively. In the U21 super final, Allan finished third after firing a 227.0 and Anne White fired a 183.5, placing her 23rd. Grace Taschuk also competed in the match, finishing 33rd on the first day and 23rd on the second day.
"I'm looking forward to getting the season started again this weekend and picking up where we left off in the fall," Monez said.
The Saturday match is set to begin at 9 a.m., and the Sunday match is set to begin at 8 a.m.
