AUSTIN, Texas – TCU and Texas battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie Thursday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Camryn Lancaster had the lone tally of the match for TCU.
The Rundown
TCU struck for the first tally just under 10 minutes into the match. Messiah Bright played a throw in to Camryn Lancaster. She worked her way through a couple Texas defenders and fired a shot from just outside the 18. The ball ricocheted off the crossbar and into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
The Frogs kept the pressure on trying to get an insurance goal before halftime. Payton Crew and Skylar Heinrich each tested the Longhorn keeper only to see their shots knocked out of danger.
In the second half, Texas came out strong. Minutes after ringing a shot off the post, the Longhorns found the game-tying goal. In the 50th minute, Trinity Byars shot from the top of the 18 bounced through a crowd of people to tie the game.
From there, a back and forth battle ensued. Both teams had chances in regulation to end the game, but both keepers were equal to the task sending the game to overtime.
The Frogs had the two best looks in overtime. Gracie Brian's shot early in the first overtime was knocked down by the Longhorn keeper and ticked off the post. Lancaster's bid in the second overtime was also stopped. The TCU defense held Texas to just five shots, none on goal in the extra frames.
Stat of the Game
8 – Lauren Kellett matched her career high with eight saves in the game.
Quotes of the Game
Head Coach Eric Bell
On the game:
"This has always been a tough place for us and it was tough again tonight. I thought we started off the game really well. The first half was pretty even. They came out in the second half and did some things that had us on our back foot and they scored. We were able to fix some things. We were able to create some things in the second half and overtime, but we have to figure out a way to win the game.
"I'm happy with the effort throughout the game. It was a hard game. We were covering a lot of ground and playing a lot of minutes, so I'm proud of that as far as how we competed. We just need to be a little bit more precise in our attacking third of the field."
