TCU Equestrian Shuts Out Tarleton in Exhibition

Frogs show strong in preseason matchup
FORT WORTH – TCU equestrian dominated in all aspects of its preseason scrimmage, taking down Tarleton 16-0 at Diamond Creek Ranch on Friday. The Horned Frogs blanked an opponent in a full meet for just the second time in program history.
RUNDOWN
The Frogs opened the day in Jump Seat and Fences, where sophomore Zoe Schiefer led the Frogs to the 4-0 sweep on Van winning, 82-67, which was good enough to earn Most Outstanding Performer honors. Freshmen AnnaKate Long and Laurel Smith both tallied their first wins as Horned Frogs, with Long winning 71-58 on Mabel and Smith earnin a 73-62 victory on Java.
The focus then shifted over to Reining where senior Skylar Smith impressed, notching a score of 71.5 on Alfie and then taking home the MOP title. Freshman Jenna Welker put the final point of the first half on the board scoring a 70.5 on Smootch.
Horsemanship kicked off the second half festivities in the outdoor arena where Kaitlyn Smith, Sidney Dunham and Elizabeth West each scored 72.5 points on the afternoon. Smith was the winner of the MOP after taking a 72.5-67.5 matchup win on Jake.
TCU concluded the day on the Flat course, where three of the four Frogs scored in the 80s, with Jordan Guilmart, Sydney Berube and Niki Barnes scoring 80, 80.5 and 87.5, respectively. Barnes was the high scorer of the event securing the MOP title. Freshman Laurel Smith carded a 78 on Caprilli to complete the fourth and final sweep for the Horned Frogs against Tarleton.
NOTES
* Six freshmen took the saddle for the first time for the Frogs.
* TCU did not allow a point for the second time in program history.
* TCU is now 1-0 against Tarleton State
NEXT TIME OUT
TCU will open the regular season against South Carolina next Friday, October 1 in Horsemanship and Flat in Fresno, CA.
