Horned Frogs Go 1-1 in Opening Day of 2021-22 Season
FRESNO, Calif. – The sixth-ranked TCU Horned Frogs opened its 2021-22 season 1-1, downing No. 9 South Carolina 8-7 and falling to No. 7 Fresno State 10-9, Saturday afternoon at the Fresno State Horse Center.
THE RUNDOWN vs. No. 9 South Carolina
The meet between TCU and South Carolina kicked off on Friday morning at the Fresno State Horse Center where the two teams competed in Horsemanship and Flat only.
In Horsemanship, Shea Graham and Jessica McAllister led the group, both scoring a 76.5 respectively. McAllisters performance was good enough to secure the MOP on Luke outscoring her opponent 76.5-75.5. Mattie Dukes picked up the third point in Horsemanship outscoring South Carolina 76-74.
On the Flat side, Ashleigh Scully tailed an impressive 81-80.5 win on Ivan to earn the only point for the jump seat on day one. Heading into the second half of the South Carolina meet the Frogs and Gamecocks were tied 4-4.
On day two in Fences, Ashleigh Scully came through outscoring her opponent 82-79 to put the first point of the day up for the Frogs. TCU fell to South Carolina 1-3 in Fences.
Heading into the final event of the meet the Frogs trailed 5-7. The Frogs swept Reining to take down the Gamecocks 8-7 with a clinch ride coming from Giorgia Medows with a gutsy 66-63 win on Dozer. Mattie Dukes took home the MOP in Reining where she scored a 71 on Pep.
THE RUNDOWN vs. No. 7 Fresno State
TCU rallied on the second half of the day but fell short 9-10 against Fresno State. Jessica McAllister came out of it with her second MOP of the day in Horsemanship.
In Fences, the Frogs fell to the Bulldogs 3-2. Isabella Baxter collected the first point with an 85-77 win on Dublin. Reagan Rast picked up the second scoring an 84 on Carl. Ashleigh Scully came out of the meet with a career high in Fences scoring an 89 on Uly just dropping the point to Fresno State 90-89.
In Flat, Laurel Smith and Jacey Albaugh gave the Frogs a pair of points scoring an 85 and 80.5 respectively. Laurel Smith set her collegiate career record of an 85 on the day, but the Frogs still dropped the event 3-2.
The Horsemanship unit won the event 3-1 as Jessica McAllister took home the MOP after a 77.5-74.5 win. Mattie Dukes put a point up for the Frogs outscoring her opponent 72.5-71.5 and Giorgia Medows rounded out the event with a 76.5-76 win on Lucy 2.
In Reining TCU fell to the Bulldogs 3-2, Giorgia Medows earned the first point with a score of 71.5 on Sam and Mattie Dukes took the second with a 70.5 ride on Cooper.
NEXT TIME OUT
The Frogs will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 3, where they will face UC Davis at 10:30 a.m. at the UC Davis Equestrian Center. Here are the Live Stats
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
UC Davis returns 11 of the 12 riders that showed at the ECAC conference championships, including two All-America honorable mention selections, the ECAC Freshman of the Year in Flat, Carly Sweeney and all-conference selection Ella Longo who was named to both the All-Flat and All-Fences teams. The Aggies started their 2021-22 campaign Thursday outscoring No. 9 South Carolina 11-6. TCU heads into the meet 1-0 against the Aggies where they defeated them 12-4 in 2019.
