Horned Frogs and Iqbal set new TCU marks for 54-hole scores
DENTON, Texas -- Multiple school records were set as the TCU women's golf team closed play Tuesday with a third-place finish in a strong field at the season-opening Sam Golden Invitational in Denton, Texas.
The Horned Frogs' 21-under-par 843 shattered the previous 54-hole program mark of 853, set on two previous occasions and most recently at the 2019 Jim West Challenge. Sabrina Iqbal broke her own school record for 54-hole score with a 12-under 204. Her previous mark was a 209 at the 2019 Golfweek Conference Challenge.
"I'm so proud of this team," TCU Head Women's Golf Coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin said. "Each person stepped up and did their job. Even with a little adversity, they came out strong. This is a sign of a truly remarkable TEAM. I am proud of their grit and relentless spirit. It is now time to get back to work and prepare for the next one."
Iqbal's final round 4-under 68 gave her three consecutive sub-70 scores. She now has 15 in her career. The senior from San Jose, Calif., finished in a tie for third, just two strokes off the lead, for her 13th top-10 result in 30 career tournaments. Iqbal carded an eagle on the par 4, 380-yard 15th hole to go with four birdies on the day. She shot par or better on 51 of 54 holes in the tournament.
Fellow senior Valeria Pacheco also had an eagle en route to a career best 6-under 210 and a tie for 15th. Her final-round 71, which included the eagle on the par 5, 492-yard 17th hole, saw her finish strong by shooting 3 under for the final seven holes.
TCU freshman Caitlyn Macnab, in her collegiate debut, tied for 18th with a 5-under 211. Her final-round 70 included three birdies in a seven-hole stretch and par or better on 17 holes.
Caroline Jordaan, also in her first tournament as a Horned Frog, lowered her score each round. Her 1 under 71 Tuesday included three birdies.
TCU freshman Avery Blake had two birdies in a four-hole stretch of the front nine.
