
TCU Takes Down Texas State

Katie Clark led the defense with nine blocks as TCU defeated Texas State on the road
SAN MARCOS, Texas -- TCU volleyball used an all-around team effort to defeat Texas State, on the road, Thursday afternoon, 3-1. The Horned Frogs delivered 13 blocks, led by nine from Katie Clark, to stifle the Bobcats in San Marcos.
"Today was a total team effort," head coach Jill Kramer said. "Our team was disciplined in their play and executed our game plan well. We had a great mentality at the service line and put a lot of pressure on the Texas State passers. Our offense was balanced and we sided-out at a good clip. Most importantly, our team played with confidence and were calm, clear and focused. We are looking forward to playing at home again on Saturday."
TCU NOTABLES:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 (TCU, 25-20): Both teams traded points to start the opening set before a 7-0 scoring run from TCU put the Frogs in front for good, 16-10. The balanced offensive attack was on full display in the run with kills coming from Adams, Clark, Myers and Nichols. The Bobcats would cut the lead to three, 16-13, only for TCU to respond with a four of the next five points to go back in front by six, 20-14. The sides traded points from then on, until a block from Clark and Nichols ended the set in the Frogs' favor. Myers was the offensive standout in the first, recording six kills on six swings to pace the team. Adams delivered two aces and Dennison led the back row with four kills a TCU won the first set for the second straight match. TCU has now won the opening set in three of six matches this spring.
Set 2 (TXST, 28-26): The second set was as close as they come. The largest lead of the set belonged to Texas State in the opening points (5-2). From there, 15 ties and six lead changes culminated in extra points being needed. The Frogs defended three set points before TXST iced the set off a pair of TCU errors. Clark led the attack with three kills and two blocks.
Set 3 (TCU, 25-21): The Frogs showed their resilience in the third, bouncing back from an emotional set loss in the second to jump in front, 7-2 in the third. TCU endured a Bobcat run that tied the set, 8-8, only to counterpunch with a 6-2 run, ending in a solo block from Clark, to go back in front, 14-10. The Bobcats kept things close, clawing back within one point, 19-18, to force a TCU timeout. TCU would come out of the timeout with renewed focus, winning six of the next nine points to claim the set. Myers, Adams and Afedo Manyang led the Frogs with three kills each. Clark added two more blocks as Georgiades flexed for five digs in the back row.
Set 4 (TCU, 25-19): With victory in sight, TCU jumped in front, 7-3 to begin the fourth set. Once again, Texas State was up to the challenge, coming back to tie the score, 10-10. From there, both teams traded points until Texas State took the lead, 17-16. Taylor Raiola came off the bench and helped TCU regain control with a pair of kills to spur a 4-0 TCU run, 20-17. Texas State rattled off a pair of points to get within one, 20-19, but Clark took matters into her own hands to close things out for the Frogs. Clark played a part in the final four points in what would become a 5-0 TCU scoring run to close out the match. The junior delivered two blocks, one solo and one with Adams, along with a pair of kills to give TCU its first road victory of the spring season. Clark finished the set with four kills and three blocks. Adams also put up three blocks paired with a kill. Georgiades was outstanding on defense, posting eight digs to deliver the win. Bella Swafford played very well in the final set as well, successfully receiving all eight serves sent her way.

- TCU collected 13 blocks today as a team, the most blocks in a four-set match since Sept. 22, 2018 (at Kansas).
- Katie Clark delivered 12 kills and a season-best nine blocks. It was the most blocks by a Horned Frog since Clark posted 12 against Miami (OH) back in 2019.
- MyKayla Myers led the team with 13 kills on .500 hitting tonight. This was the second time this spring Myers has secured 10+ kills while hitting at least .500.
- The Frogs were very efficient all match, finishing with 48 kills and just 22 errors, the fewest errors in a four-set match since Nov. 3, 2018 (vs. Iowa State).
- TCU was strong on the service line, consistently forcing Texas State out of system. Julia Adams led the team with a career-best three aces.
- Adams also set a career-high in blocks today, finishing with five.
- McKenzie Nichols joined the block party as well, tying her career-high with three rejections.
- Nichols finished with 43 assists, marking her second 40+ assist match of the spring and the 16th of her career.
- The Horned Frogs had three players rack up double digit digs tonight: Kate Georgiades (18), Dani Dennison (13) and Ashley Wehrstein (10).
- Georgiades set a new career-high with those 18 digs in her first-career start at libero.
- This was the fifth time this season TCU has had at least three players finish with 10+ digs, all five have included Georgiades and Dennison.
- Dennison finished with 13 digs, extending her career total to 1,302.
- She holds the third most digs in program history, 32 digs behind 2nd place (Katelyn Blackwood).
- She becomes the third Frog in program history to eclipse 1,300 career digs.
