TCU Earns Fifth Ranked Win at March to May

TCU falls to No. 2 FSU, bounces back vs. No. 20 Tulane.

Gulf Shores, Ala. -- No. 9 TCU beach volleyball (8-3) split matches on the second day of the March to May tournament hosted by UAB. The Horned Frogs fell to No. 2 Florida State (13-0), 0-5, and beat No. 20 Tulane (7-4), 3-2.

TCU suffered its third loss of the season against a talented No. 2 Florida State team. The Seminoles managed to win four grueling three-set matches to claim a 5-0 victory.

The Frogs came out with renewed energy against No. 20 Tulane. Caroline White and Jordan Westendorff won their first match together as a pair at the No. 5 position to give TCU a 1-0 lead. Court four dropped their match, tying up the score as the second round of matches took the courts. Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno Mateeva came through with another straight set win at No. 1, setting up Olivia Blackburn and Hailey Brockett to clinch their fifth Horned Frog victory of the season, finishing off their opponents, 21-13, 21-18.

QUICK HITS AGAINST FLORIDA STATE:

TCU was swept, 5-0 for the first time this season and just the second time in the last two seasons.
This is the most three set matches TCU has played in a dual this season.
Four sets is the second most sets that No. 2 Florida State has lost in its 14 matches this season.
The top two pairings for TCU have won at least one set in every match this season. Alvarez/Moreno (11 matches) and Blackburn/Brockett (nine), both took their opponents to three-sets.

QUICK HITS AGAINST TULANE:

Westendorff and White scored the first point for the Horned Frogs at the No. 5 position by winning in two sets: 21-18, 21-16.
This is the duo's first day of matches together and first victory as a pair.
Alvarez and Moreno scored the next point for the Frogs at the No. 1 position winning in two sets: 21-16, 21-12.
The duo is now 9-2 on the season. They have one both matches directly following a loss in straight sets.
In their first 11 collegiate matches, seven have had larger margins of victory in the second set compared to the first.
Blackburn and Brockett secured the TCU victory in the No. 2 position, winning in two sets: 21-13, 21-18.
This is the fifth time the Blackburn/Brockett duo has clinched the win for the Frogs.
This was TCU's fifth ranked win of the season, just one shy of the program record.
