Grundsoee earns air rifle crown
COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 1 TCU successfully defended its Patriot Rifle Conference championship with a dominating performance. The Horned Frogs fired a 2,383 in air rifle to take home its sixth title in that discipline. The final tally for TCU was a 4,723, topping Air Force's second-place tally of 4,678.
The host school, Ohio State, finished third with a score of 4,658. UTEP rounded out the championships with a final tally of 4,552.
TCU produced the top three scores in air rifle on Sunday. Stephanie Grundsoee topped the field for the eighth straight match after shooting a 599. Elizabeth Marsh was second after shooting a 597. Abigail Gordon rounded out the top three with a 595. Factoring into the final team tally was Nina Schuett who shot a 592.
Grace Taschuk finished 11th individually with a 586, while Kristen Hemphill was 13th with a 585.
All six of TCU's shooters finished in the top nine in aggregate total. Grundsoee led all shooters with a 1,191. Marsh was second with an 1,185 aggregate. Gordon (1,170), Schuett (1,170), Hemphill (1,167) and Taschuk (1,165) finished sixth through ninth, respectively.
Air Force was led by Morgan Kreb, who finished fourth with a score of 596. She finished third individually in aggregate tally with a 1,177. Ohio State's Ariel Hall fired a 592 and finished fifth individually with a 1,170. UTEP was paced by Isabel Brooks with a 577 in air rifle and a 1,144 aggregate score.
TCU returns to the road next Saturday at VMI.
