TCU Drops Hard-Fought Match to LSU

TCU closes its season opening, six-match, homestand with a 4-2 record.
FORT WORTH – TCU women's tennis (4-2) came up short against LSU, 4-2, on Friday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth. Mercedes Aristegui won both of her matches, including a 6-0 doubles win over the No. 14 ranked pairing in the country, in the loss.
"It may sound similar to last match, but there's so much to be excited about with this team," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "We are showing great courage and fortitude in so many areas. It happens so often that a team loses a tight doubles point and there's not much of a confident fight in singles. But with our team, we've remained resilient, brave and confident to start singles and this is a real sign of the character our ladies have. Our day is coming soon and we know it. But beyond the tangible team win, there were many highlights: Mercedes and Isabel took out a top 15 doubles team 6-0. Tate grabed her first ranked win since knee surgery. Isa bounced back from a tough loss Tuesday to be in position to win today. There have been years where I've lost 4-3 matches early in season and I feel like it almost starts to define the season. But this feels genuinely different. I feel like we are building confidence for something great this season. It's a positive feeling and I think our staff and players share it."
Aristegui and Isabel Pascual Montalvo secured their best victory as a doubles team, dispatching of No. 14 Richardson/Geissler, 6-0. It was their first ranked victory together and their first 6-0 doubles win.
In singles play, Tate Schroeder delivered her first ranked win as a Horned Frog at No. 2, taking down No. 83 Carrington. That win was closely followed by yet another singles victory for Aristegui, her fifth of the dual season. Aristegui remains unbeaten in dual singles play, with a 5-0 record.
The Horned Frogs won two of five singles matches against LSU. TCU has now won 19 of 26 dual singles matches this season.
