The Horned Frogs earn their first road win of the 2021 campaign

FORT WORTH – TCU women's tennis (5-2) notched its first road win of the season in dominant fashion, 6-1, over Samford Friday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center in Birmingham, Ala.

"Great match today," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "I'm really proud of these women. I'm especially proud of Margaret Polk, she's the MVP of the match today. It's not always easy to play in front of your hometown with your parents, friends and old coaches there watching you, but she did a great job today. It was really great to see her compete. I thought everybody stepped up today. We had some great energy in the doubles and some dominant performances from Mercedes and Marie in singles. I think we build a lot of confidence today.

The Horned Frogs won five of six singles matches today. TCU has now won 24 of 32 dual singles matches this season.

DOUBLES QUICK HITS

TCU won the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
Stevie Kennedy and Tate Schroeder posted the first win of the day at No. 2.: 6-3
It was their sixth win of the season as a doubles pair and their third of the dual season.
All three of their dual doubles wins have come at No. 2.
Marie Norris and Addy Guevara clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
It was their team-leading eighth doubles win together and their fifth in dual matches.
TCU has won three doubles points this season, all three have come with wins from both Schroeder/Kennedy and Norris/Guevara.
Norris and Guevara have clinched all three doubles points for TCU this season.
The Horned Frogs are now 10-9 in doubles play this dual season.

SINGLES QUICK HITS

TCU recorded singles wins on court two, three, four, five and six.
Marie Norris gave TCU it first singles point of the day in straight sets at No. 2.
The win was her team-leading ninth of the season.
Norris is now 4-0 at No. 2 singles and 6-1 in all dual singles competitions.
Norris won both of her sets, 6-1. She has now won 10 of her 21 sets this season by a score of either 6-1 or 6-0.
Stevie Kennedy notched her fifth win of 2021 on court three: 6-2, 7-5.
This was her first match of the season at No. 3 singles.
Kennedy is now 4-2 in dual singles matches this year.
After jumping in front of her second set, 5-2, Kennedy suffered a break to tie the set, 5-5, only to refocus and secure the TCU point with a gutsy break in the final game.
Mercedes Aristegui continued her strong run of form when she recorded the third win of the day at No. 4 singles: 6-1, 6-2
She is now 6-0 in dual singles play this season, 7-1 overall in 2021.
She has not dropped a set this dual season (13-0)
Aristegui is outscoring her opponents by a combined game-score of 84-29 (78.8 percent).
Addy Guevara improved to 7-2 this season with a straight set win at No. 5 singles.
Guevara is now 4-1 at No. 5 singles this year and 6-2 over her career.
Margaret Polk earned her first dual singles win of the season at No. 6.
Polk was playing in her hometown, Birmingham, Ala. for the first time as a Horned Frog.
It was the third overall win of the season for Polk. She improves to 3-2 this year.
The Horned Frogs are now 24-8 in singles matches this dual season.

TCU will return to Fort Worth early to account for the winter weather system. The match against Alabama on Feb. 14 has been cancelled. The Horned Frogs will return to the courts on Friday, Feb. 19 against UCF.
