FORT WORTH – No. 11 TCU scored a goal in each half on the way to a 2-0 win over Oklahoma Thursday night at Garvey-Rosenthal. Grace Collins and Skylar Heinrich each tallied a goal for the Horned Frogs, while Lauren Kellett made four saves in registering her fifth shutout of the season.
The Rundown
TCU controlled the possession for much of the first half and had a couple of looks at goal early. The Frogs finally cashed in with the first tally of the contest in the 33rd minute. Olivia Hasler got the play started with a wide feed to Chaylyn Hubbard. She worked her way to the top of the 18 and found Grace Collins. Her shot snuck in between the keeper and the post for a 1-0 lead.
Minutes later Gracie Brian narrowly missed giving TCU a 2-0 lead as her shot ricocheted off the crossbar.
After the half, TCU continued to keep the pressure on, outshooting the Sooners 14-3 in the frame. Lauren Kellett came up huge in the 60th minute as she punched a shot ticketed for the upper part of the net out of danger.
The Frogs finally found the insurance goal they were searching for in the 86th minute. The Sooner keeper came way out of her net to try and cut off a streaking Skylar Heinrich, but she was unable to do so. Heinrich battled her way through the remaining Sooner defenders and fired home her first goal in a TCU uniform.
Stat of the Game
68 – Messiah Bright's assist on Skylar Heinrich's goal was her 68th career point, moving her into a tie for fourth all-time with Michelle Prokof (2013-16).
Quotes of the Game
Head Coach Eric Bell
On the game:
"It's always hard to win college soccer games and, as I told the group, it's even harder in conference. Everybody knows everybody. So to come away with a shutout, a 2-0, doing good stuff from an attacking perspective and not giving up any goals, I'm going to sleep well tonight. We performed very well against a worthy opponent."
On the scoring chances:
"We are creating a lot more chances and being dangerous. We have some really dynamic attacking players that are creating these chances. Hopefully over the course of time, especially the next game, we are going to be creating even more.
