Alastair Gray has earned his third-career conference player of the week honor.
FORT WORTH – Alastair Gray, the captain of the No. 6 TCU men's tennis team, has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. It is the third-career conference award for Gray, who earned the honor twice last season.
The award comes after Gray led the Horned Frogs to a victory over Tulsa in the first dual of the season. Gray was instrumental in the victory, securing a doubles and singles victory to aid TCU past Tulsa, 4-1. He defeated No. 67 Kody Pearson from Tulsa in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. It was his first ranked singles win of the season and the 14th dual singles win over a ranked opponent in his career.
Gray is currently ranked as the No. 21 singles player in the nation as announced by the ITA. It is the second highest singles ranking he has achieved as a Horned Frog, just one ranking away from his career-best (No. 20) set back in 2019.
In doubles, Gray played with Luc Fomba over the course of the week, boasting a 3-0 record together across both the Tulsa dual, and the preseason tournament hosted by TCU against SMU and Texas A&M during the week. In the preseason tournament, Gray and Fomba delivered their first ranked victory as a pairing, taking down No. 48 Aguilar/Thomson from TAMU.
The four overall wins from this week advance Gray's overall win total to 93. He is just seven wins away from 100 career wins, hoping to join a list of Horned Frogs that includes All-Americans, Cameron Norrie, Alex Rybakov, former ATP No. 1 doubles player David Pate and the all-time TCU wins leader, head coach David Roditi (250 career wins).
