ATLANTA -- TCU beach volleyball won a pair of matches at the Day of Duels hosted by Georgia State in Atlanta, Georgia. The Horned Frogs dropped a 3-2 contest to Georgia State before taking down Mercer and North Florida both by a 4-1 score.
Olivia Beyer,
Avery Arellano and
Hailey Brockett each won all three of their matches on the day, Beyer, doing so at the No. 1 position all three times.
THE RUNDOWN
The Horned Frogs opened the day against the hosts, Georgia State. Arellano and Brockett won their match in thrilling fashion at No. 4, winning in three sets: 21-19, 19-21, 15-13. At No. 1,
Olivia Beyer and
Daniela Alvarez won their fourth match together in the top pairing, doing so in straight sets, 21-19, 21-16. Unfortunately for the Frogs, GSU claimed wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 to win the match and hand TCU its fourth loss of the season.
TCU bounced back in the very next match.
Hayley Boll and
Claire Doyle secured their victory in convincing fashion, winning 21-6, 21-8. Meanwhile, one court over
Lauren Turner and Brockett were locked in a heated matchup. They recovered from a 27-29 second set defeat to battle back and cruise through the third, winning: 21-18, 27-29, 15-4. TCU got its next two points in the second set of matches (No. 1 – No. 3). Beyer and
Taylor Bradley secured a tidy 21-16, 21-17 win before
Trinity Cavanaugh and Arellano finished off the day with a 22-20, 21-12 success at No. 3.
The day ended with another 4-1 victory for the Horned Frogs as TCU took down North Florida. Brockett secured her third win of the day with partner,
Rochelle Scott. The No. 5 pair battled to a 21-19, 21-17 victory to put the Frogs ahead, 1-0. After UNF tied the score with a win on court four, the top three pairs rattled off a trio of victories to close out the day. Beyer and Alvarez had another strong showing, winning 21-12, 21-12. Bradley and
Victoria McDonald won their match after a strong second set. Lastly, Arellano capped off her perfect day in the office by winning her match at No. 3 with
Haven Hill. The duo responded from dropping the second set with a resounding 15-8 third set victory.
TCU finished the day 2-1 to advance their record to 11-4. TCU is now 4-1 in neutral site matches.
