TCU faces third straight top-5 team
DALLAS – After completing conference play, the seventh-ranked TCU equestrian team will hit the road for the final time in the regular season to face No. 4 SMU at the Dallas Equestrian Center Saturday, Feb. 29, with action beginning at 11 a.m.
DIRECTOR OF EQUESTRIAN HALEY SCHOOLFIELD
"We always look forward to traveling to SMU, they always are strong competition. This is no exception and we are excited to go to battle with our crosstown rival."
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Horned Frogs (5-6, 2-4 Big 12) lead the all-time series 6-4 following their 11-9 win over then fifth-ranked SMU on Oct. 10. The Mustangs (6-3, 2-0 ECAC) are 3-1 at home against TCU. SMU has won the last two home contests with TCU's win coming on Sept. 24, 2015.
SCOUTING THE FROGS
TCU stayed put in the weekly rankings at No. 7. The Frogs had two Most Outstanding Performers against Fresno State last week coming from seniors Jamie Cook and Elena Hurd. Both Carly Lombard and Josie Mootz are set to make their 63rdappearance in their respective events which moves them into a tie for third on the all-time single event appearances list. Mootz also has an opportunity to become only the seventh rider in program history to have 35 wins or more in a single event.
Alex Beneson will be making her 70th appearance between both Jumping Seat events.
Claire Dittrich also looks to continue her winning ways as she has won her last four rides in Reining competition by an average margin of 22, including two MOPs.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
SMU will be riding out as one of the hottest teams in the NCEA, winners of their last five meets. Its last loss came on Nov. 8, after falling to No. 1 Auburn, 12-6, at home. That meet is the only loss at home for the Mustangs this year.
The Mustangs improved to No. 4 in the NCEA rankings and have climbed from No. 8 where they sat at the beginning of the month. The SMU cause was helped by a 13-5 victory over No. 2 Oklahoma State on Feb. 8, followed by a 12-7 win over eighth-ranked Texas A&M a week later.
Megan Waldron, who is a part of SMU's Horsemanship squad, is the Mustangs' wins leader with a record of 6-2 on the season. She has also earned two MOPs on the year.
