
Rifle Cruises to Victory Over No. 7 Ole Miss

Senior Catherine Miller has record day
FORT WORTH – A strong team smallbore performance fueled the No. 2 ranked TCU women's rifle team to a 4,708-4,679 victory over No. 7 Ole Miss.
Overall, five of the top six performers in the match were Horned Frogs. Kristen Hemphill and Stephanie Grundsoee both recorded aggregate marks of 1,180 in the match. Senior Catherine Miller fired a career-high aggregate in the final regular season match of her home career. She finished with a mark of 1,177 and placed third. Grace Taschuk fired a 1,172 to place fifth overall. Senior Casey Lutz finished sixth with a mark of 1,171.
The Frogs saw seven individuals fire scores in the 580s in smallbore for the first time this season. Hemphill and Grundsoee led TCU to a strong 2,340 team score, each firing a 586. Elizabeth Marsh posted a 585 in smallbore, and Lutz shot a 583. Abigail Gordon and Taschuk each competed in the morning relay and turned in scores of 580. It also marked a new career-high for Taschuk.
Not factoring into the team score, Miller tied her career-high with a mark of 583 in smallbore.
In air rifle, TCU was paced by Taylor Haffner. The sophomore shot a blistering 595, which also marked a new career-high, although it did not factor into the scoring. Hemphill and Grundsoee paced the counters in the morning relay with identical scores of 594. Miller also finished with a career-high mark of 594. The trio of Frogs all placed second.
Taschuk shot the squad's fifth-best mark, a 592, and finished sixth. Lutz and Gordon each posted scores of 588, and Marsh ended with a 584. As a team, they finished with a score of 2,368.
Ole Miss turned in a team score of 4,679 (2,323 in smallbore and 2,356 in air rifle). Abby Buesseler paced the field in smallbore, with a score of 588. The Rebels were led by Alana Kelly, who shot a 593 in air rifle.
TCU will conclude its regular season when it travels to UTEP on February 8. Next weekend, Hemphill and Gordon will be at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs to compete at part two of the Air Rifle Olympic Trials.
