Rifle Closes Out Regular Season With Win

Grundsoee leads the Frogs with a career-high 598 in air rifle
EL PASO, Texas – The No. 2 ranked TCU women's rifle team wrapped up its regular season with a dominant 4,702-4,604 victory over UTEP.
With the win, the Horned Frogs moved to 5-0 in conference matches and 10-1 on the season.
The Frogs turned five of the top six aggregate scores in the match. Stephanie Grundsoee paced the field with an impressive mark of 1,185. Casey Lutz followed with the second-best score in the match. The senior fired a 1,178. Freshman Grace Taschuk finished with a career-high aggregate score of 1,174, and Catherine Miller shot the fourth-highest mark, a 1,164. Taylor Haffner finished with a 1,152.
As a team, TCU turned in a score of 2,326 in smallbore. Grundsoee shot a mark of 587 that featured a perfect 200 prone and a 197 standing. Lutz fired a 583 for the second consecutive match. Taschuk posted a 198 kneeling en route to her score of 579. Haffner and Miller rounded out the action for the counters with marks of 577 and 576, respectively.
In smallbore, the Frogs team score of 2,376 was highlighted by a career-high 598 from Grundsoee. The freshman fired four perfect strings of 10 before hitting a 9.7 on her 45th shot. Her score is tied for the fourth-best in the NCAA this season and tied for the 14th best in program history. Taschuk strung together three perfect strings of 10 as she shot a 595. Lutz also recorded a score of 595. Miller turned in a 588, and Haffner finished with a 575.
UTEP posted a team score of 4,604 (2,280 in smallbore and 2,324 in air rifle). The Miners were paced by Jonna Warnken, who finished fifth in the match with an aggregate score of 1,163.
The Frogs were without counters Kristen Hemphill and Elizabeth Marsh in the match. Hemphill was participating in the U.S. Olympic Air Rifle Trials at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
TCU is back in action next weekend when it hosts the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships February 15-16.
