MANHATTAN, Kan. – TCU couldn't overcome No. 10 Kansas State, losing, 3-0, on Friday night inside Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kan. The Horned Frogs were playing in their first match in 28-days due to postponements the last three weekends.
TCU NOTABLES:
· Senior Dani Dennison is now 6th in program history in career digs with 1,175. She recorded a team-best 15 tonight.
· She passes coach Jill Kramer on the list and is now 22 digs away from tying Marci King for 5th most all-time.
· Dennison recorded 5.00 digs/set tonight, increasing her season average to 4.81 digs/set, the best in the Big 12.
· Calli Novak earned her first kill since Sept. 7, 2018 after dealing with a torn ACL. She finished with four kills on a team-best .429 hitting
· MyKayla Myers tallied six kills on the night, giving her four consecutive matches with at least five kills, the longest streak of her career. She has hit .300 or better in three of those four matches, including a .308 percentage tonight.
· Julia Adams led the team in kills, with seven. It was her third-straight match to have done so and fourth of the season.
· Alyssa Heist made her first career start tonight, finishing with 22 assists and six digs.
· Katie Clark returned to the lineup after missing the last three matches. She delivered a team-best three blocks, setting a new season high in the process.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 (KSU, 25-15): The Horned Frogs got out of the gates with pacey attacks off the pin and aggressive serving. Unfortunately, the balls were finding the wrong side of the line and K-State got out to a lead off TCU errors. TCU and K-State were even with 10 kills each in the set, but the Wildcats held a 24-15 lead and would cement the set with a kill to win by 10 points. Taylor Raiola led the team with four kills, Dennison delivered four digs and Clark and Audrey Nalls combined for the lone Horned Frog block.
Set 2 (KSU, 25-16): TCU struggled to keep the K-State offense in check, allowing the Wildcats to jump in front, 6-2 and build upon that for a nine-point set win. KSU finished with 17 kills to claim the set. Novak contributed her first kill since 2018 to boost the energy on the Horned Frogs side of the net but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the deficit.
Set 3 (KSU, 25-15): The Wildcats jumped in front once more, claiming an 8-2 advantage after the first 10 points. The Horned Frogs didn't go down without a fight, getting more kills from Novak and an ace from Myers. But the comeback effort fell short and KSU would win the set and the match.
UP NEXT:
The Horned Frogs get another crack at Kansas State tomorrow evening at 6:30 p.m. The match will be streamed live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ from inside Bramlage Coliseum.
