MyKayla Myers has a career day in five-set loss
MANHATTAN, Kan. -- TCU volleyball pushed No. 10 Kansas State to the limit, but ultimately fell in five sets inside Bramlage Coliseum on Saturday night, in Manhattan, Kan. Sophomore MyKayla Myers had a breakout performance at middle blocker, setting career-bests in kills, blocks, hitting percentage, points and digs.
"Our team competed hard tonight. Head coach Jill Kramer said. "Like many teams throughout the country we have battled adversity and been sidelined due to the pandemic. Our situation has been unique in that we haven't competed in a match for a month. Although we didn't finish the evening with the win, I believe we did get back into a rhythm, which we can build on as we head home to take on Iowa State next weekend."
TCU NOTABLES:
· Sophomore MyKayla Myers posted career-highs in kills (16), hitting percentage (.452), blocks (7.0), points (21.0) and digs (4) tonight, on her birthday.

· She finished the weekend with 22 kills on .409 hitting, seven blocks, six digs and four aces.
· Senior Dani Dennison delivered 15 digs tonight to extend her career total to 1,190, just seven away from 5th most in program history.
· Sophomore Julia Adams set a career-high with 25 kills.
· It was her third 20+ kill match of the season.
· Adams collected her 100th kill of the season. She is the first Horned Frog to reach triple digits this season.

· Adams has now recorded two 24+ kill matches this season, joining Baylor's Yossiana Pressley, as the only players in the conference to record multiple such games this season.

· Freshman Kate Georgiades set a season high with 14 digs.
· TCU matched its season high with 10.0 blocks as a team, led by seven from Myers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 (TCU, 25-22): The Horned Frogs came out with energy and confidence in the opening set, getting out to a 15-10 lead thanks to strong play from Adams. The Plano native unleashed five kills in the early goings to lead the way. She would finish with seven kills and four digs in the set, leading the team in both categories. Myers was a difference maker in the middle all set, leading TCU with three blocks and helping the Horned Frogs defense post five blocks to K-State's three.
Set 2 (KSU, 25-16): K-State made its adjustments after the opening set, forcing TCU into uncomfortable positions. The Wildcats jumped ahead early and stayed there throughout, claiming the set by nine points. Adams led the team with four kills. Georgiades led the team with eight digs through the first two sets.
Set 3 (KSU, 25-23): The Wildcats looked poised to take control of the match early on in the third, jumping ahead, 16-10. But the Horned Frogs found their rhythm and fought back to tie it back at 16-16. Both teams traded scores until it was 20-20. But K-State would get the friendly bounces and took the set by two points. Clark was dominant all set, finishing with a team-best seven kills.
Set 4 (TCU, 25-23): TCU wouldn't give into the No. 10-ranked Wildcats and the fourth set would prove to be the closest of the day. Seven lead changes and 17 ties resulted in a 22-22 score. Myers and Sarah Swanson made a block to give TCU the momentum before an ace from Dennison earned a set-point opportunity. After a point for KSU, Adams delivered the final blow to force a fifth set. Adams led the team with five kills to go along with four from Audrey Nalls and Myers. Dennison was splendid in the back row, delivering seven digs.
Set 5 (KSU, 15-11): Five more kills from Adams helped TCU keep the set close, 10-11. But a 4-0 K-State run proved to be the deciding factor and the Horned Frogs came up just short of upsetting No. 10 K-State on the road.
UP NEXT:
The Horned Frogs return to Fort Worth for their second home series of the season. A Friday and Saturday series against Iowa State in Schollmaier Arena. Both matches will begin at 5 p.m. and can be streamed live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
