TCU Women’s Tennis plays its first competitive matches of 2020-21 season this weekend
FORT WORTH – TCU women's tennis is set to begin its 2020 fall season at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center when they host student-athletes from six different schools in the TCU Invitational. Matches will take place from Friday, Oct. 2 through Sunday, Oct. 4 on the purple courts.
This will be the first opportunity for the revamped 2020-21 TCU roster to show their skills. The Horned Frogs have three new members on the squad for this season, two senior graduate transfers (Alisa Soloveva and Tate Schroeder) and a freshman (Isabel Pascual Montalvo). They join a group of experienced returners including redshirt-senior Marie Norris, senior Stevie Kennedy and junior Mercedes Aristegui.
There was a total of 24 victories at No. 1 singles last season between Aristegui, Norris, Kennedy, Schroeder and Soloveva. And with the return of Aleksa Cveticanin, it will be possible for TCU to field an entire starting lineup with players who have at least one collegiate victory at the No. 1 singles position in their history.
Both Schroeder and Soloveva were ranked in the final ITA singles rankings last season, coming in at No. 70 and No. 74 respectively. They join Marie Norris in the rankings, as she finished last season at No. 81.
The Opponents
Student-athletes from six different schools will come to the Bayard H. Friedman tennis center to compete in the tournament. The participating schools will be Texas, North Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, Arkansas and LSU. Of the six teams, four finished in the ITA Top-50 last season, headlined by Texas who came in at No. 4.
This is a singles and doubles round robin tournament. There will be three singles champions and three doubles champions by the end of the weekend. The singles and doubles champions will be selected by the 7 coaches at end of play based on overall round robin results.
What's Next?
The Horned Frogs will continue their fall season next Saturday (Oct. 10) and Sunday (Oct. 11) with the OU Invitational in Norman, Okla.
