Four TCU men’s tennis players were selected for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.
FORT WORTH, Texas – Four members of the TCU men's tennis team will represent the Horned Frogs at the 2019 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships that will be held from May 20-25 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
Senior Alex Rybakov earned the Big 12's automatic bid in singles and becomes only the second player in program history to earn four straight bids to the NCAA Singles Championship after Tom Mercer accomplished the feat from 1984-87. Rybakov is the No. 4 seed in the singles bracket and automatically earns singles All-America honors for the second time in his career. Junior Alastair Gray will join Rybakov in the singles championship as the Twickenham, England native earned an at-large bid for the first time in his career.
Gray and Rybakov will also pair up for an at-large bid in the NCAA Doubles Championship with teammates Bertus Kruger and Reese Stalder joining them in the bracket. Rybakov and Stalder will each be competing in the doubles championship for the second time in their respective careers as Rybakov was an All-American a season ago with Guillermo Nuñez while Stalder paired up with Jerry Lopez in 2017 to advance to the doubles final four and earn All-America honors.
The TCU men's tennis team will open postseason by taking part in the team competition starting on May 3, as TCU will host Arizona State, Miami and Harvard in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championship at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
