TCU will head to Lawrence, Kan. for the 2019 Big 12 Championship from April 18-21.
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The TCU women's tennis team will begin postseason action by heading to Lawrence, Kan., for the 2019 Big 12 Tournament that will run from April 18-21 at the Jayhawk Tennis Center on the campus of Kansas.
The Horned Frogs (12-9), who are the No. 6 seed in the tournament, will take on the No. 3 seed and tournament host Kansas (16-4) on Friday at Noon in the quarterfinals. This marks the first time facing the Jayhawks in the postseason with TCU holding a 6-3 mark against the Kansas all-time.
TCU Notables
TCU enters the postseason hoping to snap a four-match losing streak after ending the regular season with losses to Kansas (6-1), Texas (4-3), Oklahoma State (6-1) and Oklahoma (5-2). The Frogs earned the No. 6 seed and a bye from the first round of action after taking four wins during conference action against Baylor, Kansas State, Iowa State and West Virginia.
Ellie Douglas continues to climb in the Oracle/ITA singles poll and sits at No. 51 now with 11 wins on the season. The freshman picked up five wins over ranked opponents in 2019 and earned six wins in conference action. Fellow classmates Kate Paulus and Mercesdes Aristegui pace the Frogs in singles with 13 and 16 wins, respectively. In doubles, Doulgas and Aleksa Cveticanin hold down a No. 35 raning with 12 wins on the season and only three losses for a 6-2 mark in Big 12 play. The duo have downed two ranked opponents and won 10 straight matches at one point this season.
Scouting the Jayhawks
Kansas sits at No. 20 in the latest Oracle/ITA Rankings and is riding a five-match winning streak headed into the postseason. The Jayhawks picked up wins over Texas Tech (5-2), TCU (6-1), Iowa State (7-0), West Virginia (6-1) and Kansas State (7-0) to end the regular season. No. 22 Anastasia Rychagova is the first of two ranked Kansas singles players followed by No. 104 Janet Koch. The pair also boast doubles rankings with Koch and Nina Khmelnitckaia checking in at No. 3 while Rychagova sits at No. 71 with Sonia Smagina.
