TCU Tops No. 16 GCU in Florida

Avery Arellano and Hailey Brockett’s win on court five gave the Frogs a ranked victory.

MIAMI, Fla. – The No. 20 TCU beach volleyball team avenged a loss from earlier in the season by beating No. 16 GCU 3-2 to start the Surf-N-Turf Invitational on Friday at Lummus Beach Park on South Beach in Miami, Fla.

The Horned Frogs (11-11, 2-3 CCSA) started the day by facing fellow CCSA member and No. 15 FAU (11-6, 5-3). Mandi Orellana and Haven Hill had a strong performance at the top, besting the Owl's pair of Carly Scarborough and Nicole Navarro, 21-19, 21-9. A three-set win on court five by Avery Arellano and Hailey Brockett kept the Frogs in the match, but they fell to the Owls, 3-2.

TCU moved on to face No. 16 GCU (13-6) in a tight affair. Hill and Orellana earned another victory on the day, but the Frogs found themselves down 2-1 with the last two courts still playing. Court four finished first with Caroline White and Jaelyn Greene picking up a straight-set victory to even the score. With all eyes on court five, Arellano and Brockett came from behind to force a third set. The pair finished off the comeback and earned their second three-set victory of the day by beating the Lopes' Jamie Walsh and Anaya Evans, 15-21, 21-18, 15-11.

The Frogs continue play at the Surf-N-Turf Invitational on Saturday as they face No. 10 Stetson at 11 a.m., CT and Tulane at 1 p.m., CT.
