The Horned Frogs went 1-1 at the Islanders Beach Volleyball Classic on Saturday.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A 10-day road trip over spring break ended on Saturday as the No. 20 TCU beach volleyball team finished the Islanders Beach Volleyball Classic with a 1-1 record at Water's Edge Park in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The Horned Frogs (7-9) opened with a 3-2 victory over tournament host Texas A&M Corpus Christi (6-5), before dropping a 3-2 heartbreaker to UNC-Wilmington (3-5) to end its spring break road trip.
The pair of Avery Arellano and Hailey Brockett continued their hot streak with wins in both matches as the duo kicked things off with a 21-16, 21-14 win against the Islanders. Caroline White and Emily Napoli pushed TCU ahead, 2-0, against Texas A&M Corpus Christi with a comeback on court four, 16-21, 21-15, 15-12. The Islanders continued to battle and took the next two courts with the final court going into a third set to decide the match. The top pair of Jaelyn Greene and Victoria McDonald got it done as the pair scored the 20-22, 21-17, 15-13 victory to clinch the match for the Frogs.
Hindered by rain and lightning delays, TCU faced another tough battle to close out the day with Arellano and Brockett stepping up again to get the first win on court five. The Seahawks responded with a win on court four before Taylor Bradley and Molly Scheel took the top court in straight sets, 21-19, 21-17, to put TCU back in front. The win on court two went to UNC-Wilmington and then a tight third set on the final court went the Seahawks' way as they stole the final two courts and took the match, 3-2.
