TCU will return home and host a doubleheader on Saturday.
FORT WORTH, Texas – Spring break for the No. 12 TCU men's tennis team will come to an end on Saturday, March 16 as the Horned Frogs host a doubleheader featuring Pepperdine and LMU at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
TCU (10-3) will first welcome the Waves (3-5) at 11 a.m., before taking on the Lions (2-6) at 3:30 p.m. Admission to each match is free and fans can enjoy free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., between the doubles and singles portion of both matches.
TCU Notables
TCU is sitting at No. 12 in the latest Oracle/ITA poll and is currently riding a five-match winning streak and wins in six of the last seven matches played. The Frogs escaped from a tough road match with No. 22 Tennessee on Wednesday with a 4-0 victory to mark the sixth win over a ranked opponent this season.
Senior Alex Rybakov now sits at No. 7 in the singles poll and has a 14-1 mark on the year with seven wins over ranked opponents. Alastair Gray made a big leap in the polls and checks in at No. 26 with an 11-2 overall mark and four wins over ranked opponents. Bertus Kruger and Reese Stalder round out the singles rankings at No. 86 and No. 115, respectively. Kruger leads the team with 18 wins and a 5-2 mark against ranked opponents while Stalder has 11 wins and riding a three-match winning streak. Kruger and Stalder are also ranked No. 18 in the doubles poll while Gray and Rybakov sit at No. 56. Kruger and Stalder have won five straight matches and 10 of the last 11 with a 4-0 mark against ranked opponents while Gray and Rybakov have eight wins this season and two over ranked foes.
Scouting the Waves
Pepperdine enters the match after going 1-1 in the last week with a loss at UC Santa Barbara (7-0) and a clean sweep of Navy (7-0). Enrique Luque Rico leads all players with nine wins in singles action including a 4-1 mark at the No. 2 spot. Adrian Oeztbach has picked up five wins in singles action with two of them coming at the top spot. Oeztbach and Tim Zeitvogel are leading the Waves at the top spot in doubles with two wins this season while Rico and Matias Sborowitz are undefeated at the No. 2 spot with a 2-0 mark.
Scouting the Lions
LMU has only picked up two wins this season with a pair of 4-3 victories over Brown and New Mexico. The Lions enter the match after dropping a 5-2 decision to UC Santa Barbara last weekend. Diego Nava holds the most singles wins this season at two with both coming at the No. 3 position. Thien Nguyen and Lukas Moenter are undefeated in doubles with a 2-0 mark while Nava and Nick Borchenko are 4-0 with their wins coming on courts one and two.
All-Time Series Records
Saturday's match will be the 24th meeting all-time between TCU and Pepperdine with the Waves holding a 17-6 advantage in the all-time series record. The Frogs have won the last two matches played in the series and this will be the first meeting since March of 2017 when TCU got the 4-1 win in Malibu, Calif. The teams will be facing off in Fort Worth for the eighth time in program history with Pepperdine holding the 5-2 advantage in matches played. The last time the teams played at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, Pepperdine came away with the 5-2 victory in February of 2013.
LMU and TCU will be meeting for only the second time in program history and the second time this season after the Frogs scored the 4-0 victory earlier this season at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Fort Worth.
