TCU will host Wichita State on Friday and a top 15 match-up against Florida on Sunday.
FORT WORTH, Texas – After two weeks away from the friendly confines of the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, the No. 15 TCU men's tennis team returns home to host Wichita State and No. 4 Florida.
The Horned Frogs (3-1) will first welcome the Shockers (4-3) on Friday at 5:30 p.m., before taking on the Gators (4-0) on Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission to each match is free and fans can enjoy free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., between the doubles and singles portion of both matches. Fans can also participate in the World Famous Prize Court during both matches that is sponsored by Smoothie King.
TCU Notables
TCU is coming off a 5-2 victory over UT Arlington last weekend to move to 3-1 on the season. The Frogs moved up one spot in the recent Oracle/ITA poll and now sit at No. 15 to mark the fifth straight season the team has been ranked inside the top 15 in the nation.
Senior Alex Rybakov moved up to No. 8 in the singles poll and is still undefeated on the year with a 10-0 mark with five wins over ranked opponents. Alastair Gray earned his first singles ranking of the year as he sits at No. 75 with a 5-1 mark, while Bertus Kruger checks in at No. 83 with a team-best 12 wins on the season and three wins over ranked opponents. Kruger is also ranked No. 48 in the doubles poll with Reese Stalder with the duo posting four wins so far this year.
Scouting the Shockers
Wichita State is coming off a 2-1 showing in Tennessee last week with a loss to the Volunteers (5-2) to start before bouncing back with a 4-3 win over Middle Tennessee and a 7-0 victory over Tennessee State. Haru Inoue is undefeated to start the spring with a 4-0 mark in singles with both wins coming at the top two spots in the lineup. Marius Frosa also has four wins on the season with all the victories coming at the No. 3 spot. In doubles, Inoue pairs up with Murkel Dellien for a team-best 4-1 mark with three of the wins coming at the No. 2 position.
Scouting the Gators
Florida sits at No. 4 in the recent Oracle/ITA rankings and is undefeated on the year. The Gators opened the season by winning the ITA Kick-Off Weekend with a sweep of William & Mary before getting the 4-1 victory over FAU. Last week, Florida was able to get two wins over in-state foes with the 6-1 victory over UCF and 4-1 win over No. 22 Florida State. The Gators boast five ranked singles players led by No. 20 Oliver Crawford and No. 27 Andy Andrade. Florida also has four ranked doubles teams led by Johannes Ingildsen and Brian Berdusco who moved up to No. 3 this week.
All-Time Series Records
Friday's match will be the 13th meeting all-time between TCU and Wichita State with the Frogs holding a 9-3 advantage in the all-time series. The teams will be facing off for the first time since 2012 with TCU riding a seven-match winning streak in the series currently. Friday's match will be the ninth match to take place in Fort Worth with TCU holding a 7-1 advantage and Wichita State's only win at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center coming in 1984.
Sunday's match will be the sixth meeting all-time between TCU and Florida with the Frogs holding the slight advantage with a 3-2 mark in the all-time series record. The match will also mark the second straight year the teams have faced off with the Frogs getting the 4-3 win last year in Gainesville. Sunday's match will also be the first match played in Fort Worth between the teams.
