TCU opened the weekend of action at home with a 6-0 victory over the Shockers.
FORT WORTH, Texas – A weekend at home for the No. 15 TCU men's tennis team started with a 6-0 win over Wichita State on Friday night inside the indoor facility at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (4-1) were in control from the very first serve against the Shockers (4-4) as the team rolled to the doubles point. Alex Rybakov and Alastair Gray paired up on court one to open the match with a 6-3 victory before the No. 48 ranked duo of Reese Stalder and Bertus Kruger got the 6-4 win on court two to close out the doubles point.
TCU did not falter in singles action as the Frogs got the opening set on all six courts. The team finished out five of the courts with all the victories coming in straight sets. No. 83 Kruger got off the courts first with a 6-3, 6-3, win on court four with freshman Luc Fomba following on court five with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Stalder proved to be the match clincher as the senior grabbed the 6-1, 6-3 win on court three. After TCU had already gotten the win, No. 75 Gray took the 6-1, 6-3 win on court two while No. 8 Rybakov came back to get the 7-5, 6-0 victory on court one.
Quotes from the Match
Head Coach David Roditi
"As a coach, you are playing a team that is low ranked and it is leading up to hosting the No. 4 team in the nation. The big white elephant is to make sure we take care of business today. I am very happy and I thought we did. The guys were very professional about it and they did what they needed to do. We had some slow starts in some spots and it is something we will address. Obviously this early in the season, there are so many things that we can get better at. Overall, I thought our guys were ready to battle. They were ready not to be shocked and did what they needed to do to get through this match.
"Now we are very excited to prepare tomorrow for the No. 4 team in the nation. A team that I believe is one of the teams favored to win NCAAs this year. They are very well coached and these are all players that were the best in their own country or one of the best here in the United States. There are five or six guys on their team that I tried to recruit to TCU and we beat them last year. There are so many reasons for them to want to come and beat us. We are getting ready and it doesn't get any bigger than this. We need our community and we need our people out here on Sunday. The weather is going to be terrible so I know everybody is going to have nothing to do but come watch the Horned Frogs battle it indoors against one of the best teams in the nation. Come out because we are going to battle. I promise you that."
