TCU will take a road trip to Tulane and USF to finish out the month.
FORT WORTH, Texas – The month of February will wrap-up on the road for the No. 13 TCU men's tennis team as the Horned Frogs travel to No. 30 Tulane and USF on February 24 and 26, respectively.
TCU (6-3) will travel to New Orleans, La., to take on the Green Waves (4-6) on Sunday at 1 p.m., at the City Park Tennis Center before traveling to Tampa, Fla., to take on the Bulls (4-4) on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m., CT., at the USF Varsity Tennis Complex.
TCU Notables
TCU is up to No. 13 in the latest Oracle/ITA poll after going 2-1 at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The Frogs took down two top-10 ranked opponents with a 4-1 victory over No. 3 Mississippi State and a 4-0 sweep of No. 7 UCLA. Sophomore Bertus Kruger went 5-1 across singles and doubles while in Chicago and posted three ranked victories as he was named Big 12 Player of the Week on Tuesday.
New individual Oracle/ITA rankings came out on Wednesday and senior Alex Ryabkov moved up to No. 6 in the singles poll with a 12-1 mark on the season and six wins over ranked opponents. Alastair Gray moved up to No. 62 in the polls while Kruger remained at No. 83. Kruger paired up with Reese Stalder in doubles action as the duo were able to upset the No. 6 ranked pairing from Mississippi State to move up to No. 26 in the doubles poll. The pair lead the team with eight doubles wins and victories in six of the last seven matches.
Scouting the Green Waves
Tulane opened the season with a 4-0 mark and won ITA Kick-Off Weekend, but has since dropped six straight matches. The Green Wave sit at No. 30 in the Oracle/ITA Rankings with wins over two ranked opponents. Luis Erlenbusch leads Tulane in the singles poll with a No. 70 ranking with 11 wins on the season with six of them over ranked opponents. No. 88 Ewan Moore has eight wins on the season with three of them coming at the No. 1 spot. In doubles, Erlenbusch and Tyler Schick hold a 3-1 mark in dual matches with all wins coming at the No. 2 position.
Scouting the Bulls
USF is at 4-4 on the season after posting back-to-back wins over Stetson (7-0) and FAU (4-3) last weekend. The Bulls will also welcome Charlotte and Mercer this weekend before taking on TCU on Tuesday. No. 25 Alberto Barroso-Campos is leading USF with a 7-1 mark on the season with all matches played at the No. 1 position. Sergio Gomez Montesa has won his last three straight matches and has picked up five wins in dual matches playing at spots No. 5 and No. 6. Barroso-Campos is also playing at the top spot in doubles with Jakub Wokcik with the duo picking up two wins in dual matches.
All-Time Series Records
Sunday's match will be the ninth meeting all time between TCU and Tulane with the Frogs leading the all-time series with a 6-2 record. The match also marks the second straight season the teams have faced off with TCU getting the 6-1 victory in Fort Worth last spring. Sunday's match marks the first time the teams will compete against each other in New Orleans.
Tuesday's match will be the eighth meeting all-time between TCU and USF with the Frogs winning the last six straight for a 6-1 mark all-time against the Bulls. USF was able to pick up the first win in 2002, but TCU has since won the last six straight. This will mark the fifth straight season the teams have faced off and only the second time competing against each other in Tampa. The last time the Frogs traveled to USF in March of 2016, they were able to leave with a 5-2 win.
