
Four Frogs Compete at ITA All-American Championships

FORT WORTH -- Two members of the TCU women's tennis team will take part in singles competition at the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships this weekend. Pre-qualifying draws will be held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus and Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park in Tulsa, Okla.
Juniors Aleksa Cveticanin and sophomore Mercedes Aristegui will each be making their All-American tournament debuts in singles after starting off the 2019 fall season with a strong opening weekend. The duo of Chloe Hule and Stevie Kennedy will also compete in doubles competiton.
Aristegui won all three of her matches against opponents from Georgia, Texas A&M and Big 12 foe Texas Tech. Meanwhile, Cveticanin won two matches, including her first victory over a ranked opponent this year, downing No. 58 Goldsmith of Texas A&M.
Aristigui will begin against No. 13 seeded Csilla Fodor of Purdue. First serve is slated for 9:30 a.m.
"It's the first time I'll play All Americans and I'm very excited to compete against the best players in the nation," Aristegui said. "I really want to work on my forehand and keeping the focus during the important moments because it makes the difference against players with high level."
Cveticanin opens as a No. 13 seed, drawing Guzal Yuspova from Syracuse. First serve is also scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
"I am really excited to get after it this week," Cveticanin said. "All the best girls from around the country will be here so it's a great opportunity to keep growing as a player and building my belief at such a high level."
The women open at the Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park before moving to the University of Tulsa for the final three days.
The tournament begins with singles pre-qualifying draws on Oct. 5 and 6 before advancing to qualifying play (Oct. 7-8). The main draw opens Oct. 9 and concludes with the singles and doubles finals on Oct. 13.
The men's and women's singles quarterfinalists, consolation finalists, plus the doubles semifinalists and consolation finalists for each gender will earn automatic entry into the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships slated for Nov. 6-10 in Newport Beach, Calif.
