Horned Frogs open Big 12 campaign and face No. 2 team
FRESNO, Calif. – The seventh-ranked TCU equestrian program is heading on the road for a two-meet weekend in California. The Frogs will open the weekend facing Fresno State in the Bulldogs' first league action in their new home in the Big 12 Conference. TCU will then turn its attention to No. 2 Texas A&M for a two day meet with Flat and Horsemanship on Friday, then Fences and Reining on Sunday. The action kicks off at 10 a.m. pacific.
TCU DIRECTOR OF EQUESTRIAN HALEY SCHOOLFIELD
"We are excited to get on the road and test ourselves against Fresno State and Texas A&M. We are traveling several veterans that we will look to lead our younger athletes. This will be a great trip to gain mileage against solid teams on new horses. With Fresno State now in our conference we have some added excitement for this trip."
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
The Frogs are 10-7 all time against Fresno State, but only 2-5 when taking the Bulldogs on in California. TCU has won the last four meetings between these schools and six of the last seven. TCU is 2-8 against Texas A&M all-time. The two have only met once on a neutral site, in 2017 where the Aggies blanked the Frogs.
SCOUTING THE FROGS
TCU dominated in its first meet, winning 17-3 over the Jackrabbits at Diamond Creek Ranch. The Frogs moved up one spot in the rankings after their win. Misty Redd and Lanie Walkenbach are both set to get their first action of the season this weekend. On the western side, Elizabeth Clymer is the only new face as she is slated to see action in Reining.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Fresno State opened their season heading to the East Coast where it fell 11-8 to South Carolina. The 'dogs also took on Lynchburg and Sweet Briar in Jumping Seat only where they won both matchups by scores of 6-2 and 6-4, respectively. Freshman Ana Bertozzi picked up Dover Fences Rider of the Month honors from the NCEA this week after finishing September with a 3-0 record.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
Texas A&M enters the meet as the second-ranked team in the country. The Aggies have not competed yet this season, the TCU meet will be the Aggies season opener. TAMU returns three Ariat All-Americans with two of them being in Horsemanship first teamer Alex Albright and Ashley Davidson who received honorable mention.
