Excellent Fences showing lifts TCU over Fresno State
FRESNO, Calif. – In the Big 12 season opener, the seventh-ranked TCU equestrian team took down No. 9 Fresno State 12-7. The Frogs then begun their second meet of the weekend, where they take on the Texas A&M Aggies on a neutral site. At the end of competition, the Aggies hold a 6-1 lead over TCU.
DIRECTOR OF EQUESTRIAN HALEY SCHOOLFIELD
"Our coaching staff is so proud of the many great rides against Fresno State today. It's never easy to compete on unfamiliar horses on the road but our ladies were stellar in partnering with their draws today. Of course, we have some spaces on each event that we can tighten up and that will come with time and practice."
THE RUNDOWN
The day began with competition in Fences and Horsemanship. The Frogs came out incredibly strong in the Jumping Seat event, sweeping the Bulldogs, 5-0. The MOP for the event was Wynne Weatherly, who scored an 88 on Happy. She was followed closely by the rest of the lineup, who showed no score lower than 80. Izzy Baxter had the second highest score, netting an 86.
Senior Drew Rogers led the pack in Horsemanship, picking up a score of 75.5 on Diesel and earning the MOP. Cydney Benes and Josie Mootz both tallied 73, but Mootz was the only point winner of the two, taking down Alexis Steele on Jag. Anna Hauter won the third point for the Frogs on Charlie 2.
After the intermission, the Frogs and Bulldogs were back in the saddle, starting with Flat. TCU picked up two critical points from Wynne Weatherly, who punched in an 87-84 victory on Tom, and Lanie Walkenbach, who scored a 70-67 win on Q.
