FORT WORTH, Texas – After leading the TCU volleyball team to a 4-0 start to the season, freshman élan McCall earned the first weekly honor by being named Big 12 Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
McCall becomes only the fourth TCU volleyball student-athlete to win Rookie of the Week honors by the Big 12 in program history and the first since 2015.
"élan did a great job carrying a big role in her first weekend as a Horned Frog student-athlete," head coach Jill Kramer said. "Our team gave her unbelievable support in many aspects of the game that I know she is appreciative of. It was a nice start to the season for our Frogs and a nice start for élan's career in purple and white."
The freshman was a stud offensively for the Frogs with 59 total kills and a team-best 4.54 kills per set. The Leander, Texas native's kills per set total ranked the highest among all freshmen in the conference for the week and fourth overall. McCall totaled double-digit kills in every match played and scored her first double-double of 21 kills and 14 digs in the win over North Dakota.
McCall, who was named co-MVP of the Cowtown Classic presented by La Quinta, also totaled a .269 hitting clip, four service aces, 32 digs, 2.46 digs per set and seven total blocks during the opening weekend of action.
TCU will hit the road for the first time in 2018 as it travels to Fort Collins, Colo., for a tournament at No. 25 Colorado State. The Frogs will open against Florida State on Friday, Aug. 31 at 4 p.m., CT, before taking on Cincinnati on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m., CT. The road trip will end with a match against the host Rams on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 2:30 p.m., CT.
