FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 7 TCU men's tennis team was selected to appear in the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships for the 29th time in program history Tuesday when this seasons' full 64-team bracket was announced. The Horned Frogs earned the No. 9 seed and will host No. 26 Dartmouth, No. 35 Oregon and Utah State from May 12-13 for the first and second rounds at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
TCU (18-4) will take on the Mountain West Champion Aggies (19-8) in the opening round at 1 p.m., on Saturday and will also welcome the Dartmouth Big Green (20-5) and Oregon Ducks (17-9) for the other first round match at 10 a.m., on Saturday. The second round match will take place on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Frogs' selection marked their fifth under the helm of head coach David Roditi and this marks the team's fourth straight season earning a seed in the tournament and hosting the first and second rounds.
The Big 12 had all six teams make the NCAA field with three schools earning a national seed. TCU is the highest at No. 9 followed by Texas (11) and Oklahoma (14).
TCU is coming off winning its third straight Big 12 regular season title as the Horned Frogs swept regular season league action and have now won five of the last six trophies handed out in the conference. After starting the season 3-2, TCU rattled off victories in 12 of the last 14 matches with 10 of the wins coming over ranked foes. Alex Rybakov leads the Frogs with a No. 19 singles ranking and a No. 4 doubles ranking with Guillermo Nuñez. TCU has three other ranked singles players in Alastair Gray (No. 55), Trevor Johnson (No. 59) and Nuñez (No. 107), while also boasting three more ranked doubles pairs.
The team to advance out of the Fort Worth Regional will compete in the NCAA Championship Team Finals held May 17-22 at the Leighton Family Courts in Winston-Salem, N.C., on the campus of the Wake Forest.
Tournament matches will be regulation dual matches with three (3) six-game doubles matches played for one team point, followed by six (6) singles matches, each valued at one team point, played in best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring will be used and a seven-point tiebreaker will be played at six-games-all. The team winning four or more team points advances in the championship bracket.
