The winning streak, which started with a 4-1 win over Tulane on March 31 at the Surf N Turf Invitational, came to an end, however, in the last match of the day Friday with a 5-0 setback to No. 7 and host Florida State.
The Horned Frogs, who lost to the Panthers 4-1 on March 30 at the Surf N Turf Invitational, picked up their first win over a ranked opponent this season behind solid performances.
Hannah Rogers and Avery Arellano defeated GSU's Kate Novack/Amie Held 21-15, 16-21, 15-12 to record the Horned Frogs' first point of the match. Arellano tallied 23 kills and 18 digs in the win, while Rogers added 13 kills and 12 digs.
The team of Jordan Westendorff and Brooke Sassin quickly made it 2-0 for the Frogs as Sassin had 29 kills and 13 digs, and Westendorff added 14 kills and six digs in the 21-18, 22-24, 15-11 win over Eden Hawes/Ashley McGinn. Also, Cassie House and Haven Hill beat Teegan Van Gunst/Annika Van Gunst 33-31, 21-9. Hill had 17 kills and 15 digs, while House had 17 kills and seven blocks in the victory.
Molly Scheel and Jensyn Bledsoe recorded the decisive point for the Frogs with a 22-20, 21-11 win over Olivia Stasevich/Georgia Johnson. Scheel and Bledsoe had 13 and 12 kills, respectively, in the match.
For the second time this season, the Horned Frogs beat UAB. The first meeting of the year between the two schools came in the Gamecock Challenge on March 24 when the Frogs posted a 4-1 win. This time, the Frogs swept the Blazers.
Arellano (10 kills, 5 digs) and Rogers (8, 3) teamed up for their fifth win of the season by beating Sallianne Napolitano/Gabbi Moreno 21-15, 21-19 for TCU's first point. Westendorff (13, 9) and Sassin (10, 9) improved to 10-7 this year with an18-21, 21-16, 15-13 decision over Tressa Buckland/Annie Pringle.
Scheel and Bledsoe clinched the match for the Frogs by beating Haley Jared/Emily Martinez 21-14, 21-0.
Jillian Bergeson (11, 7) and Jaelyn Greene (12, 14) notched their 10th victory of the season by beating Erin Bognar/Avei Logoleo 21-18, 21-16, and House and Hill also tallied their 10th win of the year with their 17-21, 21-18, 15-12 victory over Kenley Adams/Devon May.
In the nightcap, the Seminoles, who beat the Frogs 4-1 at the Surf N Turf Invitational last week, posted the 5-0 win over TCU.
The Horned Frogs are set to close out the Seminole Beach Battle with an 8:30 a.m. CT meeting with No. 18 Florida Atlantic and an 11:30 a.m. CT contest with UNC-Wilmington.
