Beach: TCU falters in South Beach

The Horned Frogs, who have played 15 of their 22 matches against ranked teams, lost a pair of 4-1 decisions to No. 8 South Carolina and No. 7 Florida State, and a narrow 3-2 decision to No. 9 Georgia State in which four of the five matches went three sets.
In the final match of the evening against Georgia State, Jordan Westendorff and Kristy Wieser defeated Eden Hawes and Ashley McGinn 21-16, 14-21, 15-12, and Hannah Rogers and Avery Arellano held off Kate Novack and Amie Held 18-21, 21-18, 15-11, so the final match of the day between Cassie House and Haven Hill and GSU sisters Teegan and Annika Van Gunst would be the decider.
After losing the first set 23-21, House and Hill forced a third set with a 21-16 decision in the second set. The third set was tied at 13-13 and again at 15-15 before the Panther tandem scored the last two points to win the final decisive team point.
Westendorff played her first two matches of the day against South Carolina and Florida State with Brooke Sassin, and the duo ran their winning streak to five straight with a 21-19, 21-19 over South Carolina's Jess Vastine and Franky Harrison. Their streak came to an end, however, with a loss to Florida State later in the afternoon.
Against Florida State, House and Hill picked up the Frogs' lone point against the Seminoles with a three-set win over Vanessa Freire and Sara Putt 21-16, 24-22, 15-10.
The Horned Frogs will close of the invitational Saturday when they battle No. 18 Florida Atlantic at 8:50 a.m. (CT) and Tulane at 1:50 p.m. (CT).
