VERMILLION, S.D. -- TCU women's basketball faced its second straight tough road test and prevailed again, this time with a 79-71 win over South Dakota in the WNIT Quarterfinal at Sanford Coyote Sports Center on Sunday night.
TCU (23-12) now has its most wins since 2007-08 and will now play in the WNIT Semifinals for the first time in program history. TCU will play at Indiana on Wednesday.
The Frogs got 26 points from Jordan Moore on 11-of-13 shooting, exploiting South Dakota inside to the tune of a 46-26 points in the paint advantage. The Frogs withstood 11 3-pointers from South Dakota (29-7) who entered the game 17-1 at home.
Moore is now 30-of-35 shooting in TCU's four WNIT games as the Frogs have shot over 50 percent in all four games. Kianna Ray added 10 points and four assists for the Frogs in a game that was close throughout. TCU's final eight-point margin was tied for the largest cushion either team had at any point in the game.
Defining Moments
Like in its third round game at New Mexico, turnovers cost TCU in the first half. The Frogs had 10 miscues in the opening 20 minutes and needed an Amber Ramirez three-quarter court, buzzer beater to get within three points at halftime, 42-39.
The Frogs, however, committed just four turnovers in the second half to right the ship.
TCU took a four-point lead after the third quarter and extended it early in the fourth. Back-to-back buckets from Moore got the lead to eight, 64-56, with 7:22 remaining.
South Dakota would get back within two, and after the two teams traded 3-pointers late, it stayed that way at 71-69 with 1:42 remaining. That is when Jayde Woods drove the lane for a tough layup to put TCU up by four.
The Coyotes hit a jumper on the next possession, but TCU followed with a bucket from Moore on an assist from Woods. That basket put TCU up, 75-71, with 37 seconds remaining and capped a 10-point fourth quarter for Moore.
The Frogs would hold South Dakota off the board on their final three possessions and escaped with a win inside a building where South Dakota was 30-2 all-time entering the game.
Stat of the Game
86 -- With her 11-of-13 effort, Moore is now 30-of-35 in the WNIT, which is good for 86 percent shooting. She is a big reason why TCU has shot over 50 percent from the floor in every game in the WNIT.
Quote of the Game
"This was one of the toughest games that we've had to play all season. This environment, the physicality of the game, the challenge to our defense and the toughness that South Dakota played all rival any other game we've played. We feel very fortunate to be able to get out of this arena with a win." - Raegan Pebley
