SAN DIEGO – An efficient and balanced offensive attack paved the way to victory for the TCU women's basketball team (4-1) on Saturday as it shot 47.7 percent as a team and had three players reach double-figures in scoring in an 81-64 win over San Diego State (3-3) at Viejas Arena.
Kianna Ray continued her stellar play with a career-high 23 points, including 14 in the second half alone. She also tied for the team lead with five assists and hauled down a season-high seven rebounds to go along with three steals and a block.
The junior sharpshooter was 8-for-12 from the floor and has now had at least 15 points in three consecutive games. Ray was named to the SDSU Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team after leading the Horned Frogs with 38 points over their two games in California.
Jordan Moore and Amy Okonkwo also scored in double-digits for TCU with 17 and 12 points, respectively. Moore added a team-best eight rebounds as well.
Making her first career start, sophomore Anneli Maley filled the stat sheet with six points, six rebounds and five assists.
As a team, TCU had a season-low eight turnovers while amassing 18 assists in the win.
THE RUNDOWN
TCU came racing out of the gates, putting together its highest-scoring first quarter of the season with 25 points. Led by seven points from Ray, eight different Frogs made buckets as they took an early nine-point advantage.
The Horned Frogs never looked back after that, outshooting the Aztecs, 47.1 percent to 27.3 percent, en route to a 42-30 lead at halftime.
Ray kept the momentum moving forward after the break, opening the second half by making her first three shots.
The Aztecs were able to cut the TCU advantage to 10 with 2:43 left in the third quarter but the Frogs answered with an 8-2 run over the next two minutes. Ray then hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to end the frame to hand the Frogs their largest lead of the game to that point, 66-49.
In the fourth quarter, San Diego State kept fighting as it crept back within 10 once again at 68-58. TCU responded in style, however, outscoring the Aztecs, 11-2, over the next 4:08 to effectively put the game out of reach.

17 – TCU trailed for just 17 seconds in the contest as it rolled to its fourth victory of the season, winning by 17 points over the Aztecs.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
TCU Head Coach Raegan Pebley
"That was a great performance by a lot of different people tonight but I especially love the IQ, the communication and the leadership that Kianna Ray is giving us. Obviously, she is bringing scoring, but I truly don't know that I have ever had a player who is as much of a coach on the floor. I've heard it time and time again where our opponents are surprised she knows every one of their plays. It's because she studies the scout so well and she is brining that confidence on to the floor."
UP NEXT
TCU will play its final road game of 2018 when it travels to Oxford, Miss., to take part in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge against Ole Miss on Thursday, Nov. 29. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. CST at The Pavilion.
