DALLAS – Junior Carly Lombard claimed the first Most Outstanding Performer honor of her season as the sixth-ranked TCU equestrian team dropped an 11-6 decision to No. 2 SMU on Saturday at the Dallas Equestrian Center.
The Rundown
The Horned Frogs won two points each in Equitation over Fences, Reining and Horsemanship.
Although TCU didn't come away with any points in Equitation on the Flat, both Jacey Albaugh and Janelle Henningsen posted strong scores of 82 in the event.
All five Horned Frogs riders in Equitation over Fences finished with scores over 80, led by an 86 by Grace Upshaw on Rosie. Not far behind was Alex Beneson with an 85 on Hamilton, while Izzy Baxter and Reagan Rast claimed TCU's first two points of the day with scores of 84 and 80, respectively. Wynne Weatherly added an 83 on Dillon to round out the event.
The Frogs tacked on two more points in Horsemanship to kick off the activities in the Western Arena. Jamie Cook took down SMU's Aubrey Alderman, 73.5-70.5, riding Decker, while Josie Mootz defeated SMU's Payton Neiberger, 73.5-72.5 on Shirley. Cydney Benes also had a solid ride for TCU, posting a 73 on Ray.
In Reining, the final event of the day, Elena Hurd tallied a point with a 69.5-66.0 victory over SMU's Holly Lansidel on Tinsel. Lombard then picked up TCU's only MOP of the contest with a ride of 70.5 on Mo, defeating Jill Pfisthner of the Mustangs who scored a 66.0.
Notes
- TCU has taken 16 of 20 MOPs this season.
- Grace Upshaw posted a career high of 86 in Equitation over Fences.
- Elena Hurd remained undefeated on the season, as she moves to 5-0.
- The Frogs won less than three MOPs for the first time all season.
Director of Equestrian, Haley Schoolfield
"It was a long, tough day, but we have many rides that need celebrating. Carly Lombard was the MOP in Reining and Elena Hurd continued her winning ways. The Fences team rode strong and battled for a tiebreaker win. Horsemanship and Flat competed well and brought home some big numbers. We have work hard to prepare for the spring. We also know where we need this young team to focus."
Up Next
Saturday's meet closes out the fall season for TCU. The Horned Frogs will be back in action on Jan. 31 when they take on West Texas A&M. The Western portion of that contest will take place at John Justin Arena as part of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.
