Frogs set for third appearance at the FWSSR
SPRINGTOWN, Texas – The seventh-ranked TCU equestrian program returns to action after the winter break as it hosts West Texas A&M this Thursday. The English portion of the competition will start at 11 a.m. at Turning Point Ranch in Springtown before the contest shifts to John Justin Arena in the evening where the Western events will begin at 6 p.m. as part of the annual Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.
For the Stock Show portion of the meet, fans wearing purple or TCU gear will get into the grounds for free. Admission at Turning Point Ranch is always free.
Director of Equestrian, Haley Schoolfield
"We are aiming to set the tone for the spring season by demonstrating clean, confident rides in all events. Being a 'home' meet on familiar horses helps us pinpoint our strengths and weaknesses before our next five meets, which are away. This meet is so fun because we are able to showcase part of our team at the Fort Worth Stock Show in front of a wonderful crowd. It's a big stage and great postseason practice for our Western squad."
Last Time Out
The Frogs fell to No. 2 SMU, 11-6, last November in Dallas. TCU split both Equitation over Fences and Horsemanship. Junior Carly Lombard won her first Most Outstanding Performer honor of the season.
Scouting the Frogs
TCU looks to continue its string of strong individual performances as the Horned Frogs have captured 16 of the 20 MOPs named this season. Bri Gonzalez and Courtney May will compete in Equitation over Fences as will Patty Gill whom TCU from last season's squad. Jada Taylor and Lily Geelan will participate in Equitation on the Flat. It will be Geelan's season debut and Taylor's first action since the season opener. In the Western ring, TCU sends forward MG Reed, Bella Andrews and Skylar Smith, all of whom will be seeing meet action for the second time this season.
Scouting the Buffs
West Texas A&M comes into the meet having faced one other NCEA opponent this season, Oklahoma State. The Buffs fell to the Cowgirls, 17-3, in that meet.
Series History
TCU leads the all-time series against West Texas A&M, 1-0. The Frogs have won both meetings with the Buffs, but the first ever meeting between these teams was an exhibition. TCU won the most recent matchup, 17-2, on Nov. 5, 2011.
