
Freshmen Shine as TCU Tops Coast Guard

TCU defeats Coast Guard 4,668-4,516
FORT WORTH – The TCU women's rifle team wrapped up competition with a 4,668-4,516 victory over Coast Guard.
In their second match against the Bears this weekend, Coach Karen Monez turned to the freshmen and they did not disappoint. The Horned Frogs fired a 2,307 in smallbore and a 2,361 in air rifle.
TCU split their lineup between the smallbore and air rifle, with only four shooters participating in both disciplines. A trio of freshmen led the field overall. Taylor Haffner finished with the top aggregate score, shooting a career-high 1,164. She was followed by Angeline Henry (1,160) and Noelle Christensen (1,152). Junior Rachel Kimbell placed fourth with an aggregate score of 1,145.
In smallbore, the Frogs mixed things up but still finished with the top six scores. Casey Lutz led the way with a score of 580 followed closely by Haffner who had a career-high score of 579. Kimbell shot a score of 577, good for third. Christensen shot a career-high 573, while Abby Gordon and Henry rounded out the top six with scores of 571 and 570, respectively.
TCU stuck with their usual counters in air rifle and turned in the top four scores. Rachel Garner paced the Frogs with a score of 595. Kristen Hemphill followed with a score of 592. Elizabeth Marsh fired a score of 589 and Catherine Miller shot a 585. Not factoring into the team score, Haffner tied her career-high score of 585 in air rifle.
Coast Guard shot a score of 2,243 in smallbore and 2,273 in air rifle. They were led by Hunter Blankenship in smallbore (568) and Bryce Sturtz in air rifle (581).
The Horned Frogs are back in action on October 20th when they travel to The Citadel.
