TCU Duo Cards Opening-Round 70s

MESA, Ariz. -- Brooke McDougald carded a career best 2-under-par 70 and Emmy Martin also shot 70 to lead No. 26 TCU into a tie for fifth place after Friday's opening round of the Notre Dame Clover Cup.
TCU shot a 4-over 292 and is 13 strokes behind No. 2 Florida State's 279. The Horned Frogs entered the tournament with a 293.7 average round score which is on pace to set a school record, shattering last year's mark of 296.4.
"We did a lot of good things today," TCU head women's golf coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin said. "We just have to fine tune a few things, and we will be good to go in the morning.
"We pressed a little today, so we will learn from that. Our confidence and grit are second to none."
McDougald and Martin are tied for ninth individually, just four strokes off the pace of Houston's Courtney Tibiletti who had a 66.
McDougald was 2 under on the front nine and even par on the back nine while recording a team-best four birdies. She birdied back-to-back holes on 4 and 5 with three birdies in a six-hole stretch on the front nine.
Martin has now shot par or better in seven of her last 10 rounds. She was 2 under on the back nine. The junior from Odessa, Fla., totaled three birdies with par on 14 holes.
Annika Clark shot par on 14 holes and had a birdie en route to a 75 for the Horned Frogs.
TCU's Brooke Graebe and Kelly McGovern had a pair of birdies.
