
TCU Gets Aggressive in Win Over Kansas

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU women's basketball team made a consistent effort to attack the basket and the aggressiveness paid off in an 83-68 win over Kansas at Schollmaier Arena on Sunday night.
TCU (10-9, 2-6), known for its 3-point shooting, attempted just 13 shots from beyond the arc on the night, but it didn't make a difference. The Frogs were aggressive and shot a season-high 36 free throws in a game that featured 66 combined free throws.
In addition to attacking the basket on offense, TCU protected it on defense with eight blocks as Kansas (6-13, 0-8) shot just 34.4 percent, TCU's best defensive effort in Big 12 play this season.
AJ Alix led TCU with 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting and also added four assists. Jordan Moore added 13 points, career-high 16 rebounds and four blocks to anchor TCU's inside presence. Amy Okonkwo with 11 points and Jada Butts with 13, including 9-of-10 at the free throw line, were also in double figures.
Jessica Washington led Kansas with 19 points and five assists.
Defining Moments
TCU was up by just three at halftime, 37-34, but hit 15-of-16 free throws in the third quarter alone as part of a 25-point quarter that grew the Frogs' lead. The 25-point quarter from TCU was matched with a 3-of-13 shooting effort from Kansas as the Jayhawks scored just 15 in the frame and TCU's lead grew from three to 13, 62-49, entering the final quarter.
Stat of the Game
36 -- TCU attempted 36 free throws, a season-high. The Frogs shot an excellent 80.6 percent (29-of-36). TCU made 15-of-16 in the third quarter alone.
