FORT WORTH, Texas - Strong play in doubles led the way as the TCU men's tennis team finished out its opening weekend road trip with a 4-0 victory over Tulsa on Sunday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
The Horned Frogs (1-1) rebounded from a loss on Friday by dominating on court two in doubles action with Guillermo Nuñez and Alex Rybakov picking up the first win of the day with a 6-1 victory. Reese Stalder and Jerry Lopez then finished off the point and the 1-0 lead over the Golden Hurricane (4-2) by snatching the win at the top court, 6-4.
The final three points for TCU would all come in straight sets on the singles courts as No. 101 Lopez continued his winning ways by taking out Dominic Bechard, 6-2, 6-3. No. 55 Nuñez followed on court four with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Okkie Kellerman. Cameron Norrie wrapped-up an undefeated start to the season and notched another victory over a ranked opponent by toppling No. 46 Or Ram-Harel, 6-3, 6-1 on court one to clinch the victory for the Frogs.
Quotes from the Match
Head Coach David Roditi
"Getting the first win of the year exactly on the same courts we ended our season last year was kind of nice. Anytime we beat Tulsa on the road means we did a lot of good things. The boys had to overcome a lot of uncertainty before the match not knowing if some of our players would be able to play. The Tulsa athletic trainer did a great job of helping one of our players be healthy enough to play and that player won two matches for us today. The win at No. 2 doubles set the tone for the day. Cameron Norrie showed his level by beating a very tough player easily. We now get to come home and prepare to start our home season next Saturday. We would love to see our fans out-there helping us kick-off our home season with good tennis.
