FORT WORTH, Texas - Scoring wins in 13 of the 14 matches played on Monday, the No. 52 TCU women's tennis team went 2-0 in its doubleheader at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center with victories over UMBC (7-0) and UT Arlington (6-1).
The Horned Frogs (6-2) opened the day by blanking the Retrievers (3-6) for the team's fourth sweep of the season, before finishing off the doubleheader with a 6-1 victory over the Mavericks (8-2).
TCU was nearly unstoppable in doubles action in both matches has they quickly took the doubles point against UMBC with 6-2 wins on courts two and three, while they scored the point against UTA with 6-0 and 6-2 wins on courts one and two, respectively.
Marie Norris was the only player to go 4-0 on Monday as the freshman won both doubles matches with partner Alexis Pereira on court two, while also picking up straight set wins at the No. 1 position in singles. Norris was the last to finish in both matches and closed out the day by finishing off Elizabeth Thoms of UTA, 6-3, 7-6(4) to pick up her fourth win on court one and 11th of the season.

"First of all, it was great to have Sofiko (Kadzhaya) back. It was her first match back from injury and we were glad to see her back out on the courts just competing. I know it has been hard for her to sit out the last two months and she has really missed the entire spring up until now, so we were happy to have her back. It was a beautiful spring day. To be honest, we had temperatures in the 80s almost all day and sunshine, so it was a great day to get two matches in. UTA is a good team and they were 8-1 coming into this match and just beat a ranked team on Saturday. To have a convincing win over them heading into Texas Tech was important for us."

TCU will hit the road for its conference opener, as the team travels to Lubbock, Texas to take on No. 7 Texas Tech on Saturday, March 19 at 2 p.m. The Frogs will then return home for five straight home matches from March 29 to April 10.
